Singapore, 3 July 2009 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) clinched the HR Advocate Award for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) at the Singapore HR Awards 2009, organised by the Singapore Human Resources Institute.
It also received three other awards at the gala dinner held this evening (3 July 2009). They are -
1) Leading HR Practices in Talent Management, Retention & Succession Planning Award
2) Leading HR Practices in Corporate Social Responsibility Award
3) Special Mention in Compensation & Rewards Management
The HR Advocate Award is a new category this year. It recognises organisations which have been conferred the Leading HR Practices Award for 3 years within a period of 5 consecutive years. The award is given to organisations which have shown drive, support and excellence in improving a particular area, thus setting new benchmarks and standards as a role model for others to emulate.
This is the first time that SPH has received the HR Advocate Award for Coporate Social Responsibility, having garnered the Leading HR Practices Award for CSR in the past 3 consecutive years. As a good corporate citizen, SPH makes regular contributions in the areas of the arts, education, charity, community, sports and conservation.
SPH has previously won 9 HR awards and special mentions since it first took part in the Singapore HR Awards in 2007. A record 211 entries from 44 organisations were submitted this year, making it the most competitive in the history of the Awards.
Receiving the awards was Ms Mable Chan, SPH's Executive Vice President for Human Resources.
Mr Alan Chan, CEO of SPH, said: "We are happy to be conferred the HR Advocate Award for Coporate Social Responsibility at this year's Singapore HR Awards. At SPH, we pride ourselves for being a responsible corporate citizen, actively engaging all segments of the community through various events covering the arts, charity, sports, education and conservation. Some of our notable initiatives include the SPH Gift of Music series and the annual SPH Group Giving to charity."
On the other HR Leading Practices Awards, he added: "Receiving the awards again is testimony to the efforts we have put into adopting and developing HR and people management best-practices. It also shows that we value our staff as the company's greatest asset."
