Singapore, 21 March 2007 - From the fastest Chinese SMS
sender to the longest married couple, the Shin Min Daily News Record Setting
Carnival has a total of 15 records waiting to be set from March 24 to
25.
Organised by Singapore Press Holdings´ Chinese evening daily Shin Min
Daily News, this one-of-a-kind carnival cum exhibition is back for the third
time at Suntec Singapore Exhibition Hall 402 and 403. The event, which has the
strong support of the National Family Council, offers non-stop record-setting
opportunities for everyone in the family and provides a weekend of entertainment
for an expected 120,000 visitors.
Guest-of-Honour Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Minister
for Health will open the two-day carnival this Saturday at 10am.
This year,
one of the record-setting challenges, the NTUC FairPrice Big Heart Challenge,
will aim to raise $300,000 for five charities under the Community Chest.
The
home-grown retailer has called on Singaporeans to take up this nation-wide
challenge by folding origami hearts. For every paper heart collected at the Shin
Min carnival, NTUC FairPrice will pledge to donate 30 cents which will go to the
five designated charities – Asian Women´s Welfare Association, Fei Yue Family
Service Centre, HCA Hospice Care, SUN-DAC Centre for the Disabled and Movement
for the Intellectually Disabled of Singapore (MINDS).
Visitors can also take
part in other challenges to win prizes worth $15,000.

20071) Most Beautiful Wedding Photo Competition
最美丽婚照比赛Twenty wedding photos which were short
listed and published in Shin Min Daily News will be on display at the carnival.
SMS votes from readers decide which couple will be the most
photogenic.
2) We Understand Each Other
Best 知我莫若你问答比赛Married couples who think they know
each other best must answer 30 questions on stage. The couple with the highest
score will win the first prize.
3) The Longest Married Couple
结婚最久的夫妻Couples who are married for at least 40
years are eligible for this competition. Find out who are the three
longest-married couples at the carnival. Guest of Honour Mr Khaw Boon Wan will
be presenting the prize to the overall winner.
4) Hold Me Till
You Drop 抱你不放斗谁久This fun competition calls for
couples to carry their partner and the one who can last the longest will emerge
the winner. Competition is not applicable to siblings.
5) Cutest
Baby Photo Competition 最可爱宝宝照片比赛Babies who are 2
years old or younger as at 31 March 2007 can compete to be the cutest in this
photo competiton. The 20 photos which are short listed and published in Shin Min
Daily News will be on display at the event venue. SMS votes from readers
determine the top three winners.
6) Junior Sprinter Challenge
短跑小将跑得快This cute challenge is open to all toddlers
between 12 months to 18 months as at 31 March 2007. Baby contestants must walk
or run a distance of 8 metres within the shortest time without assistance to be
the fastest sprinter.
7) Marbles Picking
筷子夹弹我最行This is a test of skills for children who
are below 13 years old as at 31 March 2007. Contestants must use a pair of
chopsticks to pick up 20 marbles within the shortest time to be the
champion.
8) Skipping Competition
跳跳绳比耐力Category A - Double Under (Girls),
Category B - Double Under (Boys),Category C - Speed
(Open)For categories A and B, the participant who skips the most
number of times within 30 seconds will be the winner. For category C, the
contestant who skips the most number of times within 1 minute will be the
winner.
9) Ball Heading Challenge
顶球功夫看我的Contestants who are able to bounce a
football on their head as many times as they could within one minute will win
the challenge.
10) 2-G dumpling Wrapping Competition
两代绑棕比赛This is one competition which will help
build family bonding. Teams comprising two family members belonging to two
different generations will compete to see who can wrap the most number of rice
dumplings within 15 minutes.
11) 2-G Needles Threading
Competition 两代穿针我们快Another competition for family
members. Teams comprising two family members belonging to two generations will
thread 50 needles one at a time. The team that tread all 50 needles within the
shortest time will be the winner.
12) Granny Secret Recipe
Competition 家传私房菜比美味Six short listed family teams
will dish out their family’s signature dish in this culinary competition. The
team with the most yummy dish will win the competition.

Drink to Slim Competition 有机果汁瘦身比一比Ten contestants
will go on a 2-week healthy diet consisting of organic fruit juices with
compliments from the event’s sponsor. The contestant who is able to shed the
most kilos will win this slimming competition.
14)Chinese SMS Competition
华文SMS比速度Those
with nimble fingers should give this competition a try. Participants are
required to send an SMS consisting of 50 Chinese characters. The one who
completes the SMS and send it out within the shortest time will be the
winner.
15) NTUC FairPrice Big Heart
Challenge 平价合作社“百万心,献爱心”折纸行动Singaporeans are
encouraged to participate in this fund-raising challenge. The objective is for
participants to fold as many origami paper hearts which could be obtained at
NTUC FairPrice outlets and bring them to the collection point at the Shin Min
carnival. With each paper heart received, NTUC FairPrice will donate 30 cents to
the five appointed beneficiaries – Asian Women´s Welfare Association, Fei Yue
Family Service Centre, HCA Hospice Care, MINDS and SUN-DAC Centre for the
Disabled. This challenge with a cause aims to collect 1 million paper
hearts.
