The Straits Times is looking to hire experienced journalists
for the following positions in Singapore:
Reporters
You have at least four years' experience in news reporting
and news feature writing. You are well on your way to developing
expertise in a specific area or beat, and your contacts feel
confident that speaking to you will result in stories that
are well-written, accurate and complete.
Assistant Editors
You will work closely with reporters, assigning them work,
briefing them before they set out, guiding them and shaping
the final, complete story. You have at least eight years'
experience as a journalist and newsroom supervisor, and may
have a special area of interest or expertise.
Copy Editors
You rewrite stories on deadline, adding that extra shine
before they go into print. You are critical because you can
take a good story and make it terrific in record time. You
spot flaws and fix them, you do not tolerate jargon, and you
know that the best stories are told in plain, clear English.
When you have time to breathe, you coach writers.
Sub-Editors
You are an experienced journalist and your facility with
the language comes through when you write a headline, caption
a picture or trim a story. Accuracy is of utmost importance
to you, because you are the last stop before a story goes
into print. Or, you are a designer with flair, you make stories
come to life on a page through your creative use of typography
and how you crop a photograph.
