TheatreWorks Writers' Laboratory
Conceived in 1990, the TheatreWorks Writers' Laboratory is committed to developing and honing the skills of talented playwrights in Singapore. SPH has been a fervent supporter of theatrical art through this developmental programme and many local playwrights like Eleanor Wong, Desmond Sim, Tan Tarn How and Ovidia Yu have benefited from the laboratory.

The two key components of the laboratory are the 24-hour Playwriting Competition and the Singapore Young Dramatist Award. Through these programmes, SPH has helped groom and nurture many budding and established playwrights.

A Festival of Plays called "Charging Up Memory Lane: 30 Plays in 30 Days" was organised in 2001 to commemorate a decade of SPH's sponsorship for the laboratory.
