First-ever automotive telematch held at night, inspired by the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix!
Singapore, 27 August 2017 – Torque, Singapore’s leading motoring monthly published by SPH Magazines, held its Torque On The Move 2017 Night Edition on 26 August 2017.
The eighth edition of the title’s annual automotive telematch was the first to be held at night and was inspired by the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix night race, which marks its tenth year in 2017.
Torque On The Move 2017 Night Edition gave a moonlit twist to the event and provided the participants with a unique, islandwide telematch experience from 7pm to 11pm.
The flag-off was at Singapore’s newest and largest automobile hub Carros Centre, the presenter of this year’s event.
60 pairs of participants had to decipher clues leading to the four compulsory checkpoints called Torque Junctions, where the participants added to their points already earned in the three pre-event challenges and 12 bonus challenges.
The teams found themselves bowling with a tyre at the Bridgestone junction, swinging away at HomeRun Baseball, and solving Motul jigsaw puzzles at yet another TorqueJunction location.
There were also late-night activities in the bonus challenges – participants had to seek out 24-hour F&B outlets, nightspots, and "the scariest place in Singapore".
Tired but exhilarated participants returned to the end point at Carros Centre to tuck into a sumptuous supper, with fringe activities and attractive lucky draw prizes up for grabs.
At midnight, the event concluded with the three top-scoring teams on the winners’ podium. They were:
1st Team 3 Chen Zhaolin & Anthony Soh Kok Boon
The team in pole position drove away with $7,600 worth of prizes, including a pair of Formula One passes from Carros Centre, a set of Bridgestone Potenza S001 tyres, a Motul hamper, a pair of Luminox Tony Kanaan watches and more.
Chen Zhaolin, 33, of the winning team, said, “This is our second Torque On The Move. Last year, we ran around like headless chickens. This time, we knew the importance of planning. So we figured out the Torque Junction clues before setting off. We will definitely come back next year, as long as we are both in Singapore when TOTM 2018 takes place!”
Mr Christopher Tan, Consulting Editor of Torque and Senior Correspondent with The Straits Times, said: “Singapore’s most authoritative motoring magazine can be imaginative, too, by hitting the road at night with its readers and having some fun along the way.”
Mr David Ting, Editor of Torque, said: “Torque On The Move 2017 Night Edition was power-packed and entertaining. It got the participants’ adrenaline pumping and fuelled their motoring passion. The event also made them feel like the title’s co-drivers, all sharing the same love for cars and automotive adventures.”
Ms Pang Lee Cheng, General Manager in the Men’s & Special Interest division of SPH Magazines, said: “Another year, and another great driving event to remember. The continued success and enduring popularity of Torque On The Move since 2010 wouldn’t be possible without our event partners’ backing, participants’ support and my colleagues’ hard work.”
Torque On The Move 2017 Night Edition is organized by SPH Magazines, and presented by Carros Centre. Bridgestone is the Official Tyre, Motul is the Official Lubricant, while ONE FM 91.3 is the Offical Media.
