New appointments at SPH Magazines
SINGAPORE, 5 September 2003 -
SPH Magazines Pte Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press
Holdings (SPH), is pleased to announce three key appointments to
complement its expansion in Singapore and the regional publishing
market.
With immediate effect,
Ms Caroline Ngui is GROUP EDITOR
Mr Lee Kok Chew is CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Ms Alice Rappa is REGIONAL ADVERTISEMENT SALES DIRECTOR
Ms Caroline Ngui, 45, will now head the editorial and creative
departments of the company. Ms Ngui is responsible for steering
editorial and creative directions of all publications under the
stable, conceptualisation and development of new products and facilitating
inbound and outbound content licensing projects.
Mr Lee Kok Chew, 34, has been responsible for planning and business
development of the company, including custom publishing, new titles
and overseas expansion projects. With the new appointment, he also
oversees advertisement sales, circulation promotions and publishing
services departments, in addition to his present duties.
Ms Alice Rappa, 49, who has been heading the sales department since
2000, will be given regional duties. She is responsible for ad sales
of all consumer magazines and contract publications under SPH Magazines.
Her team is also the media representative for Citta Bella (for Lianhe
Publishing) and You-Weekly (for Focus Publishing). Ms Rappa also
oversees the special projects unit and works closely with the sales
teams of overseas partners.
In the past few months, SPH Magazines has been active in the regional
publishing scene, making inroads into Malaysia and Thailand, with
joint ventures. SPH Magazines expects to further increase its portfolio
of publications in the near future.
Managing Director David Tay, who announced the new appointments
yesterday, said: "The new appointments are part of the company's
growth strategies. This experienced team, with proven track record,
will strengthen our capability in delivering new products, market
development and regional expansion and bring SPH Magazines to new
heights."
Brief Biodata
Ms Caroline Ngui started as a reporter in The Straits Times
in 1980. She covered fashion, beauty, the arts, and features. Ms
Ngui was later promoted to Assistant to the Editor, fully in charge
of the Sunday Plus section of The Sunday Times. In 1990, Ms Ngui
joined SPH Magazines (previously known as Times Periodicals) as
features editor of Her World. Since then she has been Deputy Editor
and was promoted to Editor of Her World in 1999. She is also the
consulting editor for SilverKris.
Mr Lee Kok Chew began his career with SPH with the Marketing
Division in 1993 and was transferred to the Finance Division in
1996. Over the last 7 years, he has been exposed to various operations
in Finance, including Budgeting, Credit Control, Corporate Finance,
Financial Planning, Treasury and Investment and Investors Relations.
He joined SPH Magazines in February 2003 as the Head of Planning
& Business Development. Mr Lee has a Bachelor of Science (First
Class Honours) in Mathematics and holds a Master of Business Administration
degree from the National University of Singapore.
Ms Alice Rappa joined SPH Magazines (formerly Times Periodicals)
in 1972 in administration division and was transferred to sales
department in 1982. Ms Rappa was promoted to Ad Sales Director in
2001. Under her supervision, the sales team has grown from strength
to strength, exceeding annual budget and setting new records every
year.
