December 14, 2000 - Singapore Press Holdings, which publishes the Straits Times Index (STI), is currently reviewing the component stocks of the STI.

The STI is the Singapore stock market's main barometer of daily trading. The STI Review Committee is cognisant of the fact that exchange traded funds (ETFs) based on the STI are likely to start trading on the Singapore Exchange from next year. This makes the current review an especially important one.

The Committee would therefore like to invite views and feedback from market participants on any matter pertaining to the STI, including the composition of index stocks and the selection criteria to be applied.
