$200,000 in the stable for Lianhe Zaobao Cup and The New Paper
Trophy
Singapore Press Holdings supports local racing with sponsorship of
two new races
11 June 2003 Two exciting new races will be held
at the Singapore Racecourse this July. The Lianhe Zaobao Cup and
The New Paper Trophy, with prize money worth $100,000 each, will
make their debut on Sunday, 6 July 2003 and Friday, 25 July 2003
respectively. Both races are sponsored by the Singapore Press Holdings,
specially in conjunction with the eightieth anniversary celebrations
of the Chinese national daily Lianhe Zaobao.
"In recent years, the popularity of horse-racing as a sporting
event has increased, and SPH is pleased to support it. Both Lianhe
Zaobao and The New Paper have strong in-depth coverage of the races,
which is well received by our readers. Given that it is Lianhe Zaobao's
eightieth anniversary this year, we wanted to do something special.
These two races at the Singapore Racecourse have provided us with
an excellent platform, and we have the Singapore Turf Club to thank,"
said Tham Khai Wor, Executive Vice President, SPH Marketing Division.
Commented Mr Yu Pang Fey, President and Chief Executive of the
Singapore Turf Club: "We are delighted that Singapore Press
Holdings is sponsoring two races at Kranji in July. This will certainly
be a major boost for Singapore racing and will provide additional
thrills for racing fans. The Singapore Turf Club and Singapore Press
Holdings have long enjoyed a symbiotic working relationship and
the Lianhe Zaobao Cup and The New Paper Trophy further cements the
excellent ties between both organisations."
The Lianhe Zaobao Cup and The New Paper Trophy, both to be run
over 1,400 metres, will be Class 1 races and are set to attract
the best of local sprinters. Look out for some top-flight racing
action on Sunday, 6 July for the Lianhe Zaobao Cup (Race 7) at about
4.35pm and on Friday, 25 July (Race 5) at about 8.30pm for The New
Paper Trophy.
Not forgetting loyal readers, SPH is holding a contest in Lianhe
Zaobao and The New Paper respectively, which give readers of each
newspaper a chance to win a pair of complimentary passes to enjoy
the respective races and a buffet meal in the exclusive @Hibiscus
room at the Singapore Racecourse. Thirty such special packages stand
to be won, courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club. Contest details
can be found in Lianhe Zaobao on 11 June 2003 and in The New Paper
in early July.
