Changes on The SPH Board
30 October 2003 Two senior members of the Board of Directors
of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH), who have been with the
media group's Board for over 19 years, are stepping down in December
2003.
The SPH Board of Directors today announced that Mr Lee Hee Seng
and Mr Wee Cho Yaw have indicated their desire not to seek re-election
at the Company's Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 5 December 2003.
Both Mr Lee and Mr Wee have been with the Board since SPH was established
in August 1984. Before that, they had served on the boards of the
Chinese newspaper companies in the group.
Mr Lim Chin Beng, Chairman of SPH said: "It is with much regret
that the SPH Directors accept their decision to step down. On behalf
of the Board, I would like to express our deepest appreciation and
heartfelt thanks to Mr Lee and Mr Wee for their invaluable and unstinting
guidance and contribution to the Board.
"The Board wishes both of them all the best in their future
endeavours."
As part of the continuing renewal process, the Board announced
that it will be presenting two new candidates for election as directors
at the upcoming AGM.
They are:
- Dr Philip N. Pillai, a Senior Partner in Shook Lin & Bok.
He is also a director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore,
Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd, Lindeteves-Jacoberg Ltd
and Hotung Investment Holdings Ltd.
- Mr Sum Soon Lim, a director of Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing
Ltd, CapitaLand Ltd and Singapore Health Services Pte Ltd. He
is also Corporate Advisor to Singapore Technologies Pte Ltd and
Temasek Holdings Pte Ltd, and a member of the Securities Industry
Council.
Both Dr Pillai and Mr Sum will be considered independent directors.
Dr Pillai will be appointed a member of the Remuneration Committee
and Mr Sum, a member of the Audit Committee, upon their election
to the Board. With their diverse experience, they will be a valuable
addition to the SPH Board.
