Life! and SPH Magazines launch Life!eats: A guide to
Singapore's best food places
SINGAPORE, 12 March 2004 - Foodies in Singapore will no
longer have problems looking for good food - whether it's the best
pan-fried goose liver or a yummy plate of char kway teow.
A new food guide which hits bookstands today, reveals the best
eating places around the island.
Jointly produced by The Straits Times and SPH Magazines, Life!eats
is the first food guide of its kind in Singapore.
It offers recommendations of both restaurants and hawker stalls
in one volume, with comments by writers of The Straits Times' Life!
section. It also comes with colour photographs, dining tips, a hawker
food glossary, maps and user-friendly indexes.
Life!eats was written by three Straits Times journalists: Life!
restaurant reviewer Wong Ah Yoke, who wrote the section on restaurants;
and Life! food correspondent Teo Pau Lin and executive sub-editor
Thng Lay Teen, who worked on the section on hawkers.
The 208-page guide covers 15 restaurant categories and 36 types
of hawker food. Rather than being a comprehensive listing of eating
places, all the outlets listed are places that the writers recommend
for their good food.
The writers also pick one outlet in each category as the best.
These top outlets will be presented with certificates from Life!.
Published by SPH Magazines, the guide marks the first venture by
The Straits Times into producing guide books.
"Singaporeans love to eat and to talk about their favourite
food. This new guide by the Life! team is sure to whet their appetite
some more," says The Straits Times editor Han Fook Kwang.
Adds SPH Magazines Chief Operating Officer Lee Kok Chew: "Restaurants
and hawker stalls selected for inclusion in Life!eats are culled
from tastings and reviews done by experienced food journalists at
ST Life!. Leveraging on the established Life! brand, Life!eats is
the definitive guide to the best eating places in Singapore."
Life!eats will be updated yearly. There are also plans to publish
guides on other topics, such as travel and fashion.
Life!eats is on sale in major bookstores and newsstands at $6 a
copy.
