Zaobao readers
to get a refreshing and relaxed read on Sunday!
Singapore, 5 August 2004 Lianhe Zaobao readers will wake
up to a brighter, livelier and more vibrant Sunday paper on 29 August
2004.
The
new Zaobao Sunday promises to be a refreshing and more relaxed read,
with loads of new features to please those who want to read something
more than just news on the weekend.
Stories will be shorter and written in a lighter and simpler style,
headlines will be punchier, and the design and format will incorporate
some attractive magazine features, with less clutter, bolder use of
colour, photographs and graphics to bring alive the story and give
readers the bigger picture.
To appeal to a diverse range of readers, the revamped Zaobao Sunday
will come in two sections - a main news section in broadsheet, and
a lifestyle section in tabloid.
The relaunch
follows a major makeover to transform the staid and heavy-going image
of the Sunday Chinese daily, and breathe fresh life and excitement
into its pages to attract younger readers.
Said Mr Pan Cheng Lui, Editor of Zaobao Sunday: We hope to give
readers a refreshing and relaxing read on Sunday. It's younger, more
vibrant, and contemporary, in step with the the lifestyle, interests
and needs of our readers, without compromising on news coverage, journalistic
professionalism, credibility, integrity and quality.
The overall effect is sleeker and bolder, making navigation
through the paper faster, easier and smarter. "
The revamped Zaobao will be unveiled at a trade launch today (5 August),
at Embargo, Level 1, One Fullerton, at 6.30 pm.
What's new
The main news section will have six segments: News, China, World,
Money, Views and Sports. The focus will be on providing stories that
are of relevance and interest to readers, delivered with fresh insights
and depth. There will be more human-interest stories, in addition
to news reports. The China news will focus more on social trends,
lifestyle stories in the fast-growing Chinese economy instead of hard
business news.
zbW, the tabloid lifestyle section, will also be packed with appealing
lifestyle topics from trends, fashion, entertainment to food, health
and wellness, new product information. The overall tone is light and
fun, giving readers lots of easily-digestible nuggets.
"With Zaobao Sundays new look, new style and new content,
readers can look forward to a whole new experience on Sunday,"
said Mr Pan.
