SPH newspapers and magazine clinch
12 Ifra's Asia Media Awards
SINGAPORE, 19 April 2005 - Media group Singapore Press Holdings
emerged the biggest winner at the 4th IFRA's Asia Media Awards,
clinching 12 awards given out this evening at a gala dinner in Bangkok.
Its English flagship daily, The Straits Times, led the group with
six awards in five categories, while The Business Times won two
awards, and Lianhe Zaobao, The New Paper, Berita Harian and SPH
Magazines' Home and Decor won an award each.
In all, SPH took home one gold, five silver and six bronze awards.
Said a delighted CEO of SPH, Mr Alan Chan: "It is very gratifying
for us to win such a bumper crop of awards. We are truly proud and
honoured that SPH newspapers have once again received recognition
for editorial and design excellence, and print quality from our
peers in the newspaper industry in the region.
"These awards are a testament to the creative leadership and
talent in our newsrooms and printing plant, which are constantly
striving to make tomorrow's newspapers better than today's. They
will further inspire and spur them to sharpen their craft and produce
more cutting-edge work.
"I applaud the collective efforts and dedication of everyone
involved in winning the trophies. You did a great job!"
Added Mr Cheong Yip Seng, Editor-in-Chief of EMND, which bagged
10 of the 12 awards: "I am delighted the quality of our newspapers
has again been reaffirmed. It is a good reminder that quality is
crucial in keeping our readers who now live in a digital, broadband
world. Sloppy work will be punished instantly. Customers will just
move to other news sources, especially online."
The Apple Daily group won the second biggest number of awards,
with four gold and two silver.
