Statement on NKF withdrawing
defamation suit against SPH
In response to press queries on the withdrawal of the defamation
suit against Singapore Press Holdings and The Straits Times senior
writer Susan Long by Mr T.T. Durai, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation
and the NKF in the High Court today (12 July 2005), SPH issued the
following statement:
"We are glad Mr T.T. Durai and the NKF have withdrawn the
suit and have now acknowledged that the article in question was
accurate and fair. SPH and The Straits Times have had to defend
themselves vigorously to protect the integrity of the newspaper
and its duty to raise issues of legitimate public interest."
