160 Years of The Straits Times
in pictures - Hold a time capsule in your hands
Singapore,
August 5, 2005 - Imagine if you could hold a wondrous device
in your hands, that gives you a front row view of historical moments
in Singapore over the last 160 years.
With the new photo collection book, 160 Years of The Straits
Times in pictures, there is no need to imagine any more.
The 216-page limited edition book is a showcase of some of the
best photographers taken by 50 former and current The Straits Times
shutterbugs, and featured in the newspaper over the years.
All of the images captured in the book were also displayed at a
popular photo exhibition held in conjunction with the celebrations
for the 160th Anniversary of The Straits Times.
These images transcend their moment in history, to become timeless
reminders of Singapore through decades of change and development
with photographs that run from black and white, to colour.
The photo book, a collaboration between The Straits Times and SPH
Magazines, will appeal not just to photography buffs, but also to
anyone interested in a visual history of Singapore as witnessed
by the photographers and readers of The Straits Times.
It will be launched on Monday 8 Aug by Mr Han Fook Kwang, the
Editor of The Straits Times, at the National Day Celebrations@Tampines
event.
Following the launch, the book will also be sold at SPH Circulation
booths at the Carnival@Marina located at Marina South.
160 Years of The Straits Times in pictures is priced at
$10 and will be available, in limited quantities, at selected
bookstores, Buzz Kiosks and major newsstands from 10 Aug
onwards.
