3 October 2005, SINGAPORE - Following the success of the
SSO at the Park concert on Sept 18 in celebration of the Mid-Autumn
Festival at Botanic Gardens, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will
bring its repertoire of popular classics to the Seng Kang neighbourhood
for the very first time this coming Sunday. This is SSO's second
heartland concert after its performance at Toa Payoh Central in
August.
Enjoy the lively overture from Glinkas opera Russlan and
Ludmilla and a march from Prokofiev's opera The Love for Three Oranges.
Then immerse yourself in an irresistible lineup which includes the
famous Blue Tango by one of America's greatest composer Leroy Anderson,
the popular Chinese tune Endless Love and a captivating selection
of Broadway music, as well as movie tunes by Irving Berlin.
The SSO first performed in the SPH Gift of Music series in May
when it launched the series with a May Day concert which attracted
6,000 visitors to catch its performance at the new Shaw Foundation
Symphony Stage.
Participate in the lucky draw contest at the concert this Sunday
and win goodie bags sponsored by SPH and SSO. Goodies include SSO
VCDs and SPH notebooks and note pads.

About the SPH Gift of Music
Since the series launched in May 2005, audiences have been enjoying
surprising collaborations, interaction with the performers and fresh
Singapore talent performing alongside established acts.
The key partners collaborating with SPH in this Gift of Music series,
which ends in April 2006, are the Singapore Symphony Orchestra,
the Singapore Chinese Orchestra and a host of individuals and groups
representing some of the most recognised names in Singapore music,
as well as carefully-selected overseas acts. Apart from the SPH
concerts at the Botanic Gardens, SPH will also bring concerts to
the community with performances in the heartlands, public areas
and parks as part of its outreach efforts to connect with the community.
The concert series is one of many outreach events which SPH supports
as part of its broadening community involvement. Each year, the
media group contributes to a diverse range of education, arts and
culture, community, conservation, sports and charitable projects.
SPH was recently named the top corporate giver in Singapore in a
survey carried out by the National Volunteer and Philanthropy Centre,
and has been bestowed the Distinguished Patron of the Arts award
every year since 1993.
