SPH
Gift of Music presents An Evening in December
Singapore Botanic Gardens
Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage
Dec 4, Sunday, 6pm
Singapore, 30 November 2005 - Get ready for a festive finale
to the SPH Gift of Music series this Sunday.
Wrapping up the series of outdoor music for the year is a concert
featuring an all-girl band performing a mixture of pop, soul, jazz
and Christmas favourites.
Leading the band is composer, keyboardist and singer Christine
Sham, who recently scored the sountrack of Eric Khoo's movie Be
With Me, which opened this year's Cannes Film Festival. The pop-rock
song Be With Me,composed and sung by Christine, has been receiving
a lot of airplay on MTV. As a keyboardist, she has played at concerts
for various top Asian artistes including Sally Yeh, George Lam,
Jacky Cheung and Alan Tam. She will be performing with local singing
sensation Stefanie Sun in the latter's upcoming concert in January
next year.
Accompanying Christine at An Evening in December will be drummer
Audrey Tang, who is a familiar face at Sentosa's Jazz on the Beach
and Esplanade's On the Waterfront concert series, together with
bass guitarist Mylene Ng. All three girls are also members of a
jazz and R & B band called Walking on Water. Lending their powerful
vocals to this final Gift of Music concert for the year are singers
Nuris and Quek Li Huan. Nuris is a well-known soul singer while
Li Huan's husky voice is likened to that of Karen Carpenter.
Joining them will be well-known composer and singer Clement Chow,
famous for being the first Singaporean who sang a national song
solo. His rendition of Count on me Singapore, which is also written
by him, is still in the hearts of many Singaporeans.
The Barbershop Boys and Girls from the Shanghai American Music
School will be adding festive cheer to the concert by performing
Christmas classics, a capella style.
The hour-long concert will be performed on Sunday, 6 November at
the Shaw Foundation Symphony Stage at Singapore Botanic Gardens
at 6pm.
