Woman Of The Year 2005
Her World's Tribute To Two Outstanding Women
Singapore, 1 March 2006 - Each Year, Her World magazine
honours two special Singapore women for their outstanding achievements
and for being a source of inspiration to the nation.
The Her World Woman of the Year Award and the Young Woman
Achiever Award will be presented at the Woman of the Year 2005
gala dinner on Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at the Raffles Hotel Ballroom.
Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Manpower and Second Minister
for Defence will be the Guest-of-Honour.
WOMAN OF THE YEAR 2005 : Euleen Goh
CEO, Standard Chartered Bank
The Woman of the Year award celebrates the achievements of a woman
in Singapore who has made an outstanding contribution to society,
projects the best image of our nation and is an inspiration and
role model to other women.
This year's winner, Euleen Goh, is the CEO of Standard Chartered
Bank. She is one of the few women who have broken through the glass
ceiling in the corporate world. A chartered accountant by profession,
Euleen rose through the ranks since joining the bank in 1984. She
is responsible for driving the bank's corporate governance and strategic
agenda in the country.
In addition to her work commitment, Euleen is also the chairman
of International Enterprise Singapore, the lead agency spearheading
our country's efforts to develop its external economic wing. One
of the causes she champions is the fight against HIV/AIDS discrimination
in the workplace.
YOUNG WOMAN ACHIEVER 2005 : Theresa Goh
National Swimmer
The Young Woman Achiever Award recognises the success and potential
of a young woman who is seen to pave the way for future generations.
This year's award recipient is Theresa Goh, a national swimmer.
Though born with spina bifida, she overcame all odds to win many
awards and medals for Singapore in paralympic swimming.
From the age of 12, Theresa started training competitively. She
represented Singapore at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and the 2004
Athens Paralympics, where she finished in 5th position in the 100m
Breaststroke.
She is Singapore's best-performing athlete and has broken more
records than most able-bodied athletes. Given her age and great
determination to succeed, it looks like Theresa can continue excelling
for Singapore for a long time yet.
