The Straits Times “A Part of My Life” readers' contest builds up
for a grand finale
Readers stand a chance to win prizes by piecing clues together found
in The Straits Times daily, with the grand draw held at ‘mystery’
location on 2nd September.
Singapore, 25 August 2006 --- Every year,
Singaporeans look forward to a big event from The Straits Times
organized for its readers. Last year, as part of its 160th
anniversary celebrations, there was an ‘in-paper’ treasure hunt,
with one lucky winner driving away in a car.
This year, as part of its ‘A Part of My Life’ campaign, Straits
Times readers stand a chance to win a total of $100,000 over two
contest phases.
The first phase of the contest has just been completed, where
readers were asked to submit snapshots of every day moments that
capture how The Straits Times has shaped and spiced up their
lifestyles. Each photo was accompanied by a caption explaining the
bond between The Straits Times and themselves.
Almost 600 entries were received from readers of all ages, and this
is a testament as to how The Straits Times has indeed been a part of
its readers’ lives in many different ways.
“This campaign is a celebration of the ordinary situations in our
lives. What we often take for granted, like checking out the best
supermarket deals, where to eat the tastiest ‘bak kut teh’, or to
update ourselves on the latest Medisave changes, or even what is the
latest situation on bird flu…. all these are part of our daily
routine. Our message is that The Straits Times serves over 1.3
million people everyday, and for generations, it has unfailingly
provided news, information and entertainment that add value and
colour to our lives,” said Mr James Heng, Executive Vice-President,
Product Branding/New Media Development at SPH Marketing.
From the multitude of photo entries, 25 winning pictures have been
selected and put together as a montage, together with a picture of a
‘mystery location’.
This montage will be the focus of the second and concluding phase of
the contest, as it will be divided into jigsaw pieces and half of
these pieces will be hidden within The Straits Times on 26, 27
August and 2 Sept. Readers are required to search for these pieces,
cut them out and piece them together to complete the montage on the
entry forms that can be found in The Straits Times on 26 August, 30
August and 2 September.
The picture of the ‘mystery location’ will provide readers with the
clue as to where they should submit their entries from 9am onwards
on 2 September. The live draws will be conducted at 11am (for the
11th- 35th prizes) and 12 noon (for the 1st –10th prizes) from all
the correct entries submitted. Details of the prizes are attached in
Annex A.
The 25 winning photos will also be displayed on-site and readers are
invited to vote via SMS for their favourite. 10 Sony Digital Still
Cameras (DSC-N1) will be given away. There will also be fun and
entertainment from 10am together with Hubert Tang of Radio 91.3.
Some examples of the photo entries are found in Annex B.
