An evening of classical favourites at Tampines
SSO @ Tampines
Sunday, Oct 8, 6.30pm
Open field next to Tampines MRT Station
Free Admission
Singapore, 3 October 2006 - The Tampines neighbourhood will
be filled with the melodious strains of well-known classics by Italian
composer Rossini and Russian master Rimsky-Korsakov, and also signature
Malay tunes by renowned Malaysian composer and film director P.
Ramlee on October 8.
Performed by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under Maestro Lim
Yau, the SSO@Tampines concert is part of the second season of the
SPH Gift of Music series. This delightful outdoor classical concert
is not to be missed, following the successful SSO @ Geylang Serai
concert in August this year which had an attendance of over 800
residents.
The evenings programme opens with Rossinis well-loved
Overture to The Thieving Magpie, one of his most famous comic operas.
Other highlights include P. Ramlees beautiful Malay compositions
Getaran Jiwa and Bunyi Gitar, Rimsky-Korsakovs famous Capriccio
Espagnol and a stirring medley of evergreen Beatles' hits.
Says Ms Ginney Lim, Executive Vice President of SPHs Legal
and Corporate Communications, The SPH Gift of Music series
featuring the SSO is returning to the heartland for the fourth time.
This follows after successful performances at Seng Kang, Toa Payoh
Central and Geylang Serai. In all our heartland concerts, we try
to bring a fresh perspective to classical music by tailoring the
lineup according to the flavours of the neighbourhood.
