Radio 91.3 and Radio 100.3 now broadcasting live from SPH News Centre
Patrick Daniel appointed chairman of SPH Unionworks, aims to build
synergies with SPHs editorial and marketing units
Singapore, 10 November 2006 - SPH UnionWorks, which operates
entertainment radio channels Radio 91.3 and Radio 100.3, has officially
moved into Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) headquarters at News Centre
in Toa Payoh North. The move will bring greater synergies and exciting
opportunities for collaboration with SPHs editorial and marketing
units.
SPH also announced that Mr Patrick Daniel, editor-in-chief (designate)
of SPH's English and Malay Newspapers Division, will take over the
chairmanship of SPH UnionWorks on Dec 1 from Mr Arthur Seet.
SPH Unionworks, which previously broadcast from the Singapore Labour
Foundation (SLF) building along Thomson Road, is a 70-30 joint venture
between SPH Multimedia and NTUC Media.
Ms Goh Wee Wang, General Manager of SPH UnionWorks, said: The
relocation of our office and studios to News Centre will enable
the two radio stations to tap into SPHs resources, including
the latest news, and enhance the stations programming. In
addition, radio will give the SPH print and internet platforms an
audio dimension.
Mr Daniel added: "Our aim is to derive greater synergies across
our various media platforms, as well as with our marketing units.
Advertisers can now adopt an integrated approach via print, online
and radio."
Radio 91.3s The Morning Show, which is hosted
by DJs Joe Augustin and Petrina Kow and airs Mondays to Fridays
from 6am to 10am, collaborates with SPHs flagship English
newspaper The Straits Times, as well as The New Paper. On Radio
100.3, the daily morning programme Affairs which broadcasts
from 6am to 10am, features its DJs Wenhong and Xiaozhu discussing
the daily newspapers latest local and global news and happenings.
Said Ms Anna Lim, Vice President for Radio 100.3: Since radios
main advantage is its immediacy, by collaborating with SPHs
newsrooms, we can provide more comprehensive information and updates
for our listeners and readers of SPHs newspapers. Ultimately,
it is both the readers and listeners who are the winners from this
move.
The positioning currently adopted by the two radio stations has
also been consciously chosen to complement SPHs suite of products,
so as to achieve overall integration across multiple platforms,
not just in editorial content but also in marketing. Both stations
target listeners aged between 25 and 45, which is the same age group
for the core consumers of SPHs other media platforms.
Mr Hubert Tang, Assistant Vice President of Radio 91.3, said: Key
advertisers in SPH newspapers such as Carrefour, Best Denki and
Mobile One are now advertising on our radio stations too which speaks
volumes of the confidence they have in us and in our ability to
deliver their advertising messages to the right target markets.
Our close proximity to SPHs marketing team will allow for
greater synergies for promotions across print, internet and now
radio platforms. Its exciting times ahead!
To show their commitment in developing the radio stations for the
long haul, SPH Multimedia and NTUC Media have invested S$1.2 million
in the building of the new studios and upgrading of all the broadcast
equipment.
Mr Alan Chan, SPH's Chief Executive Officer, said: SPH is
serious about the radio business. As the major shareholder in SPH
UnionWorks, we will continue to give our full support in building
up this broadcast platform together with our core print products
and will explore new ideas to incorporate our online and even outdoor
media. This is inline with our plans to move beyond print.
Also supporting the move to News Centre, Mr Seah Kian Peng of NTUC
Media, and a Director on the SPH UnionWorks Board, said: The
SPH UnionWorks team is a dynamic and hardworking lot backed by a
strong management. With this new set-up and the latest technologies,
I am confident that Radio 100.3 will make their mark and become
a leading and innovative radio station, while Radio 91.3 will grow
from strength to strength and stay relevant to their listeners.
