MENDAKI and SPH Media signed a Memorandum of Understanding to develop a one-stop educational resource microsite for the Malay/Muslim community

Singapore, 30 August 2022 - Yayasan MENDAKI (MENDAKI) and SPH Media signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today to develop a one-stop educational resource microsite for young parents and students in the Malay/Muslim community. The MOU was signed between Mdm Zuraidah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, MENDAKI and Mr Saat A. Rahman, Editor, Berita Harian. The MOU signing ceremony was also witnessed by Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Manpower, and Deputy Chairman, MENDAKI and Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Chairman of SPH Media Trust.

The partnership between MENDAKI and SPH Media provides a concerted and more targeted approach to instil a culture of lifelong learning in the Malay/Muslim community. Through this initiative, the community will be able to access free educational multimedia content and resources in one platform, such as exam papers, activity sheets, parenting and education tips, as well as inspiring stories of parents and students’ journey on education and lifelong learning. Parents can also download Berita Harian’s bilingual preschool publication, Cilik Cerdik. The microsite will be integrated into one of the sub-sections on Berita Harian’s website.

Under the MOU, the one-stop educational resource microsite will be developed in two phases. The first phase of the microsite is expected to be launched in September 2022. The second phase of the microsite is estimated to roll out next year and will leverage data and insights to provide more curated content for parents with young children, primary and secondary school students, and youths.

On the partnership, Mr Zaqy Mohamad said, “Berita Harian has been a leader and shaper of our Malay/Muslim community for more than 50 years. With this partnership between MENDAKI and SPH Media, we hope to reach out to the wider Malay/Muslim community by leveraging on Berita Harian’s reach, multimedia initiatives and readership to encourage more parents to be involved in their children’s learning and support our students’ academic and career aspirations."

Mdm Zuraidah said that the microsite would complement MENDAKI’s initiatives. “Our partnership with SPH Media to develop a one-stop educational resource microsite would complement MENDAKI’s initiatives to empower parents as the child’s first teacher, nurturer and partner as well as to prepare our children to be resilient and future-ready. Together with like-minded partners, MENDAKI is able to further support parents holistically, and help students to pursue their studies and achieve their dreams,” says Mdm Zuraidah.

Mr Saat said, “Berita Harian is happy to collaborate with Yayasan MENDAKI on this meaningful project, as we are always exploring more ways to reach out to the community, including the young. The microsite aims to be a one-stop portal for parents and students to access resource materials as well as content such as articles, videos and podcasts related to education and parenting. We hope it will be useful for the community as we continue our journey towards a community of excellence, driven by achievements in education. The MENDAKI-BH education microsite is a start of several collaborations BH will embark on. We look forward to more meaningful collaborations with our community’s organisations.”
