Singapore, 8 September 2022 - Continuing its annual tradition of celebrating the best in business, the Singapore Business Awards (SBA) named Mr Wee Ee Cheong, Deputy Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of United Overseas Bank Limited (UOB), as the Businessman Of The Year, while Mr Lee Chee Koon, Group CEO of CapitaLand Investment Limited, received the honour of Outstanding Chief Executive Officer Of The Year.
The annual Awards - jointly organised by The Business Times and DHL Express Singapore - recognise local business leaders who have made a difference in their respective industries and have created value for their stakeholders. Following a round of nominations, the winners of the SBA were decided by a panel of twelve judges drawn from the political, business, and academic fields, and chaired by Mr Stephen Lee, former Chairman of Singapore Airlines.
Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment, was the Guest-of-Honour at the SBA presentation ceremony. The ceremony was held at The Ritz-Carlton, Millenia Singapore, after two years of it taking place in a hybrid format.
The SBA gala dinner saw the movers and shakers of the business world come together to celebrate the night’s honourees. This year’s Outstanding Overseas Executive Award was presented to Mr Lee Yuan Siong, Group CEO and President of AIA Group, while Mr Ian Ang, co-founder and CEO of Secretlab, was named the Young Business Leader Of The Year. This year’s Enterprise Award went to TDCX Inc, a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) company currently listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
Mr Christopher Ong, Senior Vice President & Managing Director, DHL Express Singapore, said: “It is in our DNA to contribute to the business ecosystem that we operate in. One way we do so is by highlighting Singapore as a vibrant economy with world-class talent pool. By recognizing organizations and leaders that have made a difference, especially during such unprecedented times of the pandemic, we hope to reinforce Singapore’s position as one of the top business destinations in the post-Covid world.”
DHL Express celebrates its 50th anniversary in Singapore. This year also marks its 37th time organizing the Awards in partnership with The Business Times.
Mr Wong Wei Kong, Editor of The Business Times, said: “The Singapore Business Awards recognises business excellence, and we are truly heartened to see this shining through in these challenging times. Our warmest congratulations to the winners of the awards, all of whom have shown great vision and leadership in taking their businesses one step further.”
