SPH Media Trust’s Chinese Media Group and Ngee Ann Polytechnic renew partnership

Singapore, 3 January 2022 — The Chinese Media Group (CMG) of SPH Media Trust has renewed its partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HMS).

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed today between SPH Media Limited, a subsidiary of SPH Media Trust, and Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Under the three-year MOU, CMG will organise and conduct 12 sessions of Seniors Go Digital Workshop a year. Ngee Ann Polytechnic Chinese Media Course (CMC) students will provide one-to-one assistance for the elderly participating in the digital workshops through the inaugural Youths Help Seniors Go Digital initiative.

A total of 300 elderly are expected to take part in the digital workshops each year. Topics include cybersecurity, usage of online meeting platforms, e-commerce basics and reading news content online will be covered at the digital workshops.

Other new initiatives include student-led publicity campaigns for a CMG’s new media platform scheduled to launch in the first half of 2022, as well as scholarships and internship opportunities for HMS students.

In addition, CMG’s adult learning platform Han Culture and Education (HCE) will also work with HMS to jointly develop Continuing Education and Training (CET) programmes, particularly in the area of Chinese content production, social media and business culture for young adults in media and non-media fields.

The CET programmes will include components from existing courses on Chinese business culture and contemporary issues offered by CMG. These courses aimed to better equipped business professionals with the relevant communication skills and knowledge to maximise their business engagements.

Under the new MOU, CMG will also continue to sponsor scholarships for two outstanding third-year Chinese Media Course (CMC) students, arrange learning journeys and offer internships to students who are taking CMC and Chinese Studies.

Ms Loh Woon Yen, Managing Editor of Chinese Media Group, SPH Media Limited, said: “Chinese Media Group has been working closely with Ngee Ann Polytechnic School of Humanities, involving their students in our projects and providing them with scholarships and internship opportunities. With this MOU, We are happy to deepen our partnership with Ngee Ann Polytechnic in our efforts to help elderly readers transit to the digital realm, as we provide them with a platform to connect with the youth.”

Ms Lynn Fong, Director, School of Humanities & Social Sciences (HMS), said: “The School of Humanities & Social Sciences, especially our Diploma in Chinese Media & Communication, has enjoyed many years of collaboration with CMG. The opportunity afforded to our students with the Senior Go Digital project reinforces our School’s commitment to ‘Think People’. I look forward to the real-world learning experiences our students will gain and believe this partnership will make a difference in the community."
