Founder of Hao Ren Hao Shi named The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year 2022

Singapore, 9 February 2023 - Mr Anson Ng, the founder of Hao Ren Hao Shi (HRHS) (Good People, Good Deeds) has been named The Straits Times (ST) Singaporean of the Year for his kind deeds that made a positive impact to the less fortunate.

Mr Ng, who is also the owner of a second-hand car dealership, Presto Expat Motoring Services, has been active in the hospice movement which includes funding travels and preparing meals for those who are terminally ill, and even covering the costs of strangers' funerals when they are unable to afford.

Mr Ng started helping out at old age homes and hospices more than 20 years ago, and founded HRHS in 2018 to provide monthly provisions and food to the less fortunate. Registered as a charity, HRHS has helped about 1,000 families.

The ST Singaporean of the Year Award honours Singaporeans who have made a significant impact on society, such as elevating Singapore to a global scale, enhancing the quality of life for people, or by displaying fortitude in the face of adversity. In its 8th edition, this year’s award also recognised community champions, passionate athletes and those who have made an impact with their selfless acts (please see the list of finalists in the attached Annex A).

Mr Jaime Ho, Editor of The Straits Times, said: “This year, we honour a dedicated individual who has devoted more than 20 years of his life to the less fortunate in Singapore. He epitomises the selfless and generous ideals we all aspire to be ourselves, and leads the way in showing that every deed, big or small, starts with one person, and has infinite potential to inspire. It is our honour to call Anson The Straits Times Singaporean of the Year 2022. Congratulations to all the finalists for your selfless acts that have made a difference in society!”

Mr. Edmund Koh, President, UBS Asia Pacific of UBS Group AG and UBS AG, said: “UBS Singapore is proud to honour the next wave of exceptional Singaporeans and their contributions to society. Through this award, we want to showcase our daily heroes, who by their actions and lives, inspire all of us. They are all winners and deserve this award and recognition! Our Singaporean of the Year 2022, Anson Ng, demonstrated how it was possible to give dignity and respect in death through his charitable work for over two decades.”
