Singapore, 22 July 2025 - Berita Harian (BH) and AMP Singapore (AMP) have successfully raised over $260,000 through the BH-AMP Charity Golf and Dinner 2025 held in conjunction with Singapore’s 60th birthday celebrations. With anticipated matching grants, total contributions are expected to reach $400,000—well above the original goal of $300,000.
The funds raised will go towards supporting programmes by AMP and the Singapore Children's Society to help the vulnerable, children, youth, and families, assisting them to build brighter and more hopeful futures. A portion of the funds will be allocated to book prizes for deserving students pursuing communication, media, or Malay studies in higher education.
Bringing together corporate partners and the community for this meaningful cause, the event was held on 22 July 2025 at Orchid Country Club, featuring 96 golfers across 24 flights. Senior Minister of State for Defence, Sustainability and the Environment, Mr Zaqy Mohamad launched the tee-off at 1.30 pm, and BH-AMP Charity Golf Patron Madam Halimah Yacob graced the dinner as the Guest of Honour.
The event saw diamond sponsors, Sheng Siong Group Ltd and Salleh Marican Foundation each contributing $60,000, and platinum sponsor Bengawan Solo Pte Ltd donating $20,000. Gold sponsors including AGSH Builders Pte Ltd, Karva Travel Group Pte Ltd and Maybank Singapore Ltd contributed $10,000.
Reflecting on the significance of the event, BH Editor Mr Nazry Mokhtar said: “I’m deeply grateful to AMP Singapore for partnering with us on this meaningful initiative to uplift lives and support those in need. This charity event reflects Berita Harian’s commitment to giving back and standing by fellow Singaporeans during challenging times. When we first began planning, I was unsure if we could meet our fundraising target, especially given the tough economic climate. I am glad to say I was proven wrong. Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and golfers, we have not only met—but surpassed—our goal.”
Mr Mohksin Rashid, Executive Director of AMP Singapore, added, “This charity golf event is a meaningful example of what we can achieve when we come together with a shared purpose. Our partnership with Berita Harian, alongside the support of our generous donors, sponsors and golfers, has shown the strength of our community spirit. Efforts like this remind us that collaboration across various segments of society can create lasting, positive change. I hope this will serve as a catalyst for more meaningful partnerships within our community in the future.”
Sharing her thoughts on the meaningful event, Madam Halimah said, “The timing could not be more fitting. As we mark Singapore’s 60th birthday, SG60, this event reminds us that nation-building is not only about physical progress, but also about the values that anchor us: unity, inclusiveness, and care for one another.
It is also deeply symbolic that we are holding this event just one day after Racial Harmony Day. This observance is a reminder of the strength we draw from our diversity. And tonight, we take it one step further - by turning harmony into action, and goodwill into tangible support for those who need it most,’’ she added.
SMS Zaqy Mohamad said, “As we mark Singapore’s 60th year, this charity event is a reminder of what has brought us this far—our spirit of unity and care for one another. As we mark Singapore’s 60th year, this charity event is a reminder of what has brought us this far—our spirit of unity and care for one another.
It’s heartening to see how the community has come together to support those who need it most. The BH-AMP Charity Golf and Dinner is more than just a fundraising event - it’s a powerful example of what we can achieve in the community working hand in hand.
By uplifting vulnerable families, supporting our children, and empowering youth through education, we are not only meeting today’s needs—we are also shaping a brighter future for Singapore. I thank Berita Harian and AMP for their leadership and commitment. Today’s generosity is a strong reminder that each of us has a part to play in building a compassionate, more inclusive Singapore. Let’s continue to give, grow, and prosper as one Singapore.”
