‘Capturing A Century: A Visual Journey’ – Lianhe Zaobao Centennial Photo Exhibition

Media Releases

Singapore, 5 April 2023 - Revisit Singapore’s history in the past century at Lianhe Zaobao’s (ZB) photography exhibition, "Capturing a Century: A Visual Journey", which can be found on Level 3 Atrium of Raffles City Shopping Centre. The photo exhibition, one of many events in conjunction with the paper's centennial celebrations, was officially opened this morning by current Speaker of Parliament, Mr Tan Chuan-Jin.

The exhibition showcases 100 photos taken by ZB’s photojournalists and obtained from the archives of Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh, which had merged to form ZB in 1983. The photo collection explores five main themes: national development, COVID-19, political milestones, life & culture and major news events in Singapore.

Ms Han Yong May, Executive Editor of ZB, said: "We are thrilled to present 'Capturing a Century: A Visual Journey', an exhibition that celebrates Singapore's rich history and cultural heritage through a visual journey. As a newspaper that has been documenting our country’s development all these years, we are honoured to share these precious moments and memories with the public.”

The exhibition will take visitors on a journey through Singapore's past and present; from the challenges of the nation's birth to the advancements of modern times. At the exhibition, visitors will also be able to witness some of Singapore's most iconic photographs come to life with animated effects by scanning the QR codes provided. From today until 9 April 2023, admission to the exhibition is free for members of the public.

In addition to the main photo exhibition at Raffles City, ZB will be hosting mini exhibitions of "Capturing a Century: A Visual Journey" at three public libraries - Bedok Public Library, Jurong Regional Library, and Woodlands Regional Library from 8 April to 8 May 2023. These exhibitions will each present a specially curated collection of 18 to 20 photos that cover the same five themes as the main exhibition. Visitors can also participate in various activities in the libraries, including ink transfer workshops and free photography talks conducted by ZB’s photojournalists.

ZB will be featuring photos and videos from the exhibition on its website and social media platforms. For more information, please visit https://bit.ly/ZBPhoto2023 or refer to the Annex attached.
