Nikkei & SPH Media explore strategic collaboration on newsroom exchange, new digital products

Mr Khaw Boon Wan, Chairman, SPH Media Trust met Mr Naotoshi Okada, Chairman & Group CEO, Nikkei Inc. in Singapore on 16 February 2023, to review current collaboration and explore further strategic collaboration, including facilitating sharing between newsrooms on digital transformation experiences and practices, as well as developing new digital products to better serve audiences in Singapore and the region. 

The areas of collaboration discussed include a project to be initiated between SPH Media and Handshakes by DC Frontiers Pte Ltd. The first phase of the project, expected to commence soon, seeks to explore potential applications of technology solutions developed by Handshakes to enhance SPH Media’s digital news offerings.

DC Frontiers’ investors include Nikkei (25.41%), S&P Global (15.59%) and SPH Media (17.24%). Handshakes, which is owned and operated by DC Frontiers, is a data analytics and AI technology solution provider that employs proprietary data and AI techniques to transform how organisations conduct business, due diligence and compliance activities.

To take the proposed areas of collaboration forward, both companies are exploring entering into a Memorandum of Understanding in 2Q 2023.
