SPH Media and Google Partner To Drive The Future Of News Through Technology and Trusted Journalism

Media Releases

Singapore, 17 April 2026 — SPH Media and Google today announced a partnership to accelerate growth across four strategic areas: content and distribution, AI capability building, talent and ecosystem development, and audience engagement. Combining SPH Media’s strength in trusted journalism with Google’s technological and distribution capabilities, this partnership is anchored in shared priorities and designed to deliver lasting value. It focuses on four key areas that reflect both shared and complementary priorities:

Content and Distribution
SPH Media is committed to fostering an informed citizenry and building strong communities through accessible, relevant, and timely journalism. This partnership will strengthen integration with Google’s distribution channels, ensuring SPH Media’s content reaches wider audiences promptly.

AI Capability Building
Both organisations will work together to elevate SPH Media’s newsrooms with advanced AI capabilities, including training in GenAI verification for investigative research and newsroom verification. This will also facilitate the implementation of AI-enabled workflows, and responsible AI use in the newsrooms. These efforts will enhance editorial authority while driving greater efficiency through technology.

Talent and Ecosystem Development
Under a newly established News Incubator Program, the partnership will nurture emerging journalism talent from local schools and universities by building a pipeline of young news content creators. It will also develop a community of AI-literate champions who will support news amplification and verification, developing future-ready journalists and news content creators while upholding strong editorial standards.

Audience Engagement
This partnership will see the deployment of new advertising formats designed to reach out to new audiences and deepen audience engagement with the communities it serves.

Mr Kuek Yu Chuang, Deputy CEO of SPH Media, said, “As Singapore’s largest, most trusted and most awarded news publisher, SPH Media is always looking for innovative partnerships to help further its mission. This partnership will make sure that SPH Media’s quality journalism will be up-levelled with best-in-class technology, responsible use of AI, as well as improved and widened engagement with audiences.”

Mr Ben King, Country Managing Director for Google Singapore, said, “As the AI economy evolves, our collaboration with SPH Media ensures that the news industry remains at the forefront of this transformation. From empowering newsrooms with our advanced Gen AI tools, to nurturing the next generation of journalists, we are working together to build an innovative and sustainable future for the news industry in Singapore.”
