SPH Media’s Chinese Media Group to host free screenings of Teochew movie Dear You for subscribers, readers, listeners and seniors
Singapore, 26 June 2026 - Readers and listeners of Lianhe Zaobao (LHZB), Shin Min Daily News, radio stations 96.3 Hao FM and UFM100.3, can enjoy four free screenings of the Chinese movie Dear You in its original Teochew dialect from 2 to 5 July 2026. Two of these screenings will also be brought into the heartlands for the first time.
Eligible readers and listeners can visit Lianhe Zaobao’s website at www.zaobao.com.sg or its app to access ticketing links for reservation from 10am on 27 June 2026.
The Chinese Teochew-language film Dear You has received overwhelming response since its official release in Singapore on 18 June 2026. Demand for its tickets remained high even with additional screenings.
To reward loyal subscribers, readers, listeners and seniors, SPH Media’s Chinese Media Group (CMG) had applied for approval from the Infocomm Media Development Authority to organise four screenings of Dear You in Teochew. On top of two screenings at Golden Village VivoCity on 4 and 5 July, CMG will also be bringing the film to Golden Village Yishun and Tampines on 2 and 3 July, making it more convenient for seniors there to watch the film.
The movie screenings are part of the “A Movie Date with Ah Gong Ah Ma” initiative organised by CMG, exclusively sponsored by DBS/POSB, and supported by Clover Films.
Ms Lee Huay Leng, Editor-in-Chief of CMG, SPH Media, said, “SPH Media’s Chinese Media Group has been keen to apply for screenings after learning in mid-May that the Teochew film was well-received in China. Lianhe Zaobao has been reporting on qiaopi (Nanyang immigrants) for more than a decade. Two years ago, we even brought readers to Chaoshan to visit an exhibition on qiaopi cultural artefacts. The theme of journeying to Nanyang is familiar to many Chinese families in Singapore, as many recollect stories of their grandparents making that journey. It is a familiar subject, yet one that touches everyone differently. That is what makes a work of art especially compelling.”
She added, “In the past, for the needs of nation-building, the dialects that our grandparents were most comfortable communicating in gradually gave way. Our society today is very different. We hope to allow artistic works to be experienced in their original language and form, and to give our grandparents a good reason to go to the movies.”
Mr Lim Him Chuan, Country Head of DBS Singapore, said, “DBS/POSB has always believed in being a purpose-driven organisation. Dear You speaks to the courage to embrace change and chart new paths, as well as the importance of human connections amid life’s journey. Sponsoring this film is our way of celebrating the resilience, heart and shared stories of the people we are privileged to serve every single day.”
