Surprising Chart-Toppers Unveiled at the 12th U1000 Music Countdown Finale

Singapore, October 19, 2024 - Held on October 19 at the Capitol Singapore Outdoor Plaza, the 12th edition of the U1000 Music Countdown (U选1000) was filled with excitement and cheers as UFM100.3’s DJs revealed the top 15 songs.  

Themed “Ur Eras”, the annual countdown would crown the top 1,000 songs from the past 30 years that were nominated and voted for by listeners. Among the list were nostalgic hits by Jacky Cheung and Faye Wong, as well as old-time favourites from JJ Lin, Stefanie Sun, and local rising stars Kenny Khoo, Boon Hui Lu and Sherman Zhuo. 

The event brought together more than 1,000 fans who participated in mass sing-alongs. UFM100.3’s morning time belt “The PLAY Show” DJs Li Mei, Andrew and Cheng Yao danced to 4th place song, Friday Night《星期五晚上》by Taiwanese boyband Energy, and concluded the performance with the viral dance moves comprising 16 consecutive squats.

The top song of the year was Guest《嘉宾》by Zhang Yuan, a popular hit released in 2020. The singer also made a surprise appearance via a video recording, thanking the Singapore fans for crowning his song on the prestigious music chart. Divorce in Ghana 《在加纳共和国离婚》by emerging talents Firdaus and Dior clinched the second place, while Big Fish 《大鱼》by Charlie Zhou claimed third.

The three top songs share a common trait where each tells a melancholic story that evokes deep emotions in listeners. Ms Lee Xin Ying, Assistant Music Director, Senior Producer-Presenter of UFM100.3 said, “The overall results show that great songs can still stand out, breaking the notion that established singers and groups are unbeatable.”
