Singapore, 11 July 2025 – SPH Media’s The Straits Times (ST), Singapore’s most established English-language newspaper, commemorates its 180th anniversary today with the launch of a nationwide travelling exhibition, and a major refresh of its website and mobile app.

Titled Heartbeats And Headlines: 180 Years Of Telling The Singapore Story, the travelling exhibition offers an immersive journey through nearly two centuries of journalism, tracing ST’s evolution from a colonial newsletter to a trusted national institution. It spotlights the daily’s role in capturing pivotal moments in Singapore’s history and reflects how its journalism has adapted to keep pace with the changing times in an ever-changing media landscape.

The exhibition will debut at Jewel Changi Airport from 12 to 20 July 2025, before moving to Westgate (25 July to 3 August 2025) and Raffles City Shopping Centre (8 to 17 August 2025). It will feature rare front pages, interactive displays, and multimedia stories that bring to life the headlines and heartbeat of a growing nation.

To commemorate this significant milestone, the ST website (straitstimes.com) and mobile app have been refreshed to offer a more intuitive and engaging experience. Key features of the revamped platforms include:

  • A reimagined homepage spotlighting “must-know” stories of the day.
  • Artificial intelligence-powered tools to provide relevant news for busy readers.
  • A sleek new look and improved navigation for a seamless reading experience.

These enhancements reflect ST’s commitment to staying at the forefront of digital news, while continuing to deliver accurate, in-depth, quality and trusted reporting.

Mr Jaime Ho, Editor of ST, said, “As we mark 180 years of telling the Singapore story, we are reminded that the heart of journalism lies not just in platforms or algorithms, but in people – our readers and the communities we serve. Our future as a newsroom lies in being a trusted source of clarity, a catalyst for dialogue, and a constant in a world of change. This anniversary is not just about looking back, but about reaffirming our role as an indispensable partner in the life of our nation.”

Founded in 1845, ST remains Singapore’s most widely read and trusted news title, with a reputation for comprehensive local, regional and global coverage. Published by SPH Media, Singapore’s largest multichannel media network, ST continues to set the benchmark for public service journalism.

The latest survey findings by GfK show that SPH Media reaches eight in 10 Singapore residents. Among Singapore news publishers, SPH Media’s news products have also garnered the highest number of page views. SPH Media is the nation's most awarded news organisation by authoritative international associations including the International News Media Association (INMA), the World Association of News Publishers (WAN-IFRA), and the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA).
