Ladies and gentlemen
Opening
1. A very good afternoon to everyone, and welcome to SPH News Centre. This Memorandum of Understanding that SPH Media and SMRT are signing today marks a partnership that is first of its kind for us, both in scale and in ambition.
2. This collaboration brings together two national companies that serve Singaporeans in deeply practical and meaningful ways: one by keeping the nation moving, and the other by keeping the nation informed. Together, we are expanding access to relevant news and content across Singapore’s transit network to serve the public.
SPH Media’s Purpose
3. As Singapore’s National News Company, SPH Media is guided by a clear purpose: to deliver quality journalism and ensure that every Singaporean has ready access to credible news and information. This partnership advances that purpose by tapping SMRT’s extensive network to bring our news and content directly to the millions who pass through its stations and platforms, and use SMRT’s services each day.
Benefits of the Collaboration
4. In a fast-moving world rife with misinformation and disinformation, timely and accurate information helps people make sense of events and navigate choices. That is why we strive to provide relevant and credible information to audiences where they are, and in the formats they prefer.
5. By collaborating with SMRT, we bring news and engaging content into everyday travel. Commuters can start picking up the latest news from The Straits Times through digital screens and audio systems when they reach the station and on their way to the trains.
Collaboration on branded content
6. We deeply appreciate this partnership with SMRT. It reflects a shared commitment in our public-service missions. Over the coming year, we will be introducing “In Perspective”, a research-driven programme that reflects commuter insights, their perspectives, and their expectations of public transport.
Acknowledgements and Conclusion
7. I would like to extend our sincere appreciation to Moon Ming, and Hoon Ping and his team, for their partnership and for making today possible.
8. We look forward to building on today’s joint initiative with SMRT and to continuing our work together, in support of commuters and the audience we reach.
Thank you.
