Singapore, 26 October 2025 - In celebration of SG60, SPH Media and SPH Foundation are proud to launch “Let’s Talk News” - the national news company’s first-of-its-kind community news-sharing initiative that seeks to bring the joy of reading and value of staying informed to seniors across Singapore. Through this initiative, 60 Active Ageing Centres (AACs) islandwide will receive multilingual news, curated reads and specially selected content designed to help seniors enjoy their golden years meaningfully.
“Let’s Talk News” was officially launched by Mr Baey Yam Keng, Minister of State, Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth & Ministry of Transport, at Our Tampines Hub this afternoon. It marks the start of an important public and private partnership that builds a more inclusive and connected community for seniors.
As the nation’s largest multichannel news media network, SPH Media will contribute trusted and high-quality content to keep seniors engaged with the world around them. Together with co-organiser SPH Foundation, SPH Media is partnering with the Ministry of Culture, Community & Youth (MCCY), the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC), NLB, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), and Community Care organisations to broaden the range of content and deepen outreach.
Sponsored by Holistic Way and The Association of Banks in Singapore, the one-year initiative comprises resources and activities to promote active and informed ageing for seniors:
- Multilingual News Access
• Easy access to SPH Media’s well-loved multilingual print and digital ePapers — including The Straits Times, Lianhe Zaobao, Shin Min Daily News, Berita Harian and Tamil Murasu at the AACs to keep the seniors up-to-date with current affairs and issues. - Curated Content and Reads
• Monthly news content package, curated by SPH Media, shared at the AACs. These packages feature current affairs, insights and NLB's recommended resources to empower seniors to stay informed and keep their minds active. - Interactive sharing sessions
• Four sessions at heartland venues such as Our Tampines Hub, SPH Media News Centre and NLB to reach more seniors in the community. Each session, organised by SPH Media, will focus on themes that offer practical and trusted information to support seniors’ daily living and well-being. These range from financial literacy and scam awareness, to health, wellness and media literacy. The first session, held yesterday at Our Tampines Hub, gave seniors a preview of the topics and discussions to come.
On top of providing trusted content, SPH Media is also collaborating with NTU to provide students from their new course, "Care, Serve, Learn", a platform to apply what they learnt through volunteering opportunities at the “Let’s Talk News” sessions at selected AACs. These students will be able to translate learning into action, and contribute meaningfully to the community through the facilitation of the news sharing sessions with the seniors at the AACs.
“Let’s Talk News” had two pilot runs at Allkin Singapore and NTUC Health this July. 84-year-old Mdm Lim Boey Hiang, a participant from the Allkin Singapore session, said, “I found the initiative especially rewarding. Not only did I learn how to access the news digitally, I also gained useful knowledge about scams targeting seniors and how to prevent them. But what I enjoyed most was being able to embrace the spirit of lifelong learning while interacting with staff and volunteers from SPH during the pilot run.”
Mr Chan Yeng Kit, CEO of SPH Media, said, “We are honoured to co-organise “Let’s Talk News” with SPH Foundation and work with MCCY, AIC, NLB, NTU, and the Community Care organisations to help seniors age well and keep their minds active. This initiative reflects our commitment to not just delivering trusted news, but giving back to the community. It goes beyond giving seniors access to trusted and carefully curated stories that resonate with them. It is also about sharing content to keep them informed, and sparking conversations that connect them with one another and the community.”
Mr Roland Ng, Chairman of SPH Foundation, said, ""Let’s Talk News" is a wonderful way to bring trusted news and meaningful conversations into our seniors’ daily lives. This initiative reflects SPH Foundation’s charitable objective of advancing fact-based public discourse and encouraging informed participation, so as to promote active citizenship and civic responsibility. By staying informed about key community issues of public concern and relevance through curated news content, seniors can engage more meaningfully with family and friends in conversations that matter, and continue to play an active role in their communities."
