STOMP honours the best Getai artistes at 4th Getai Awards

Singapore, 14 July 2010 – Social networking and citizen journalism website, STOMP, presented 20 awards to the most popular and entertaining getai artistes at its 4th annual Getai Awards held at Kreta Ayer Square this evening.

More than 3,000 people came to catch the performances by flamboyant getai artistes in their colourful costumes. Hosted by well-known radio presenter Huang Wen Hong from SPHUnionWorks’ Chinese station, Radio 100.3, and Lin Ru Ping, veteran radio, TV and getai artiste, the event was graced by Mr David Ong BBM, Chairman of the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens' Consultative Committee.

At the event, STOMP presented 10 getai performers with the People’s Choice awards. These winners were the top 10 artistes who garnered the most number of votes by the public over a four-month period. Videos of the performances were hosted in the Getai A-Go-Go section of STOMP. The online poll conducted between September and December 2009,garnered close to one million votes.

In addition, 10 Special Awards were presented to the following winners:

    Winner: 宝贝姐妹 Babes in the City

  3. Best Newcomer - 最佳新人
    Winner: 罗绮绮 Sherraine Law

  4. Best Foreign Singer - 最佳海外歌手
    Winner: 吴佩芝 Wu Pei Zhi

  5. Best Female Host - 最佳女主持人
    Winner: 林茹萍 Lin Ru Ping

  6. Best Male Host - 最佳男主持人
    Winner: 奇贤 Qi Xian

  7. Best Getai Performing Group - 最佳表演組合
    Winner: 明珠姐妹 Ming Zhu Jie Mei

  8. Most Watched Online Video - 最高点击视频
    Winner: 明珠姐妹 Ming Zhu Jie Mei

  9. Best Female Artiste - 最佳女歌手
    Winner: 李佩芬Lee Peifen

  10. Best Male Artiste - 最佳男歌手
    Winner: 王雷Wang Lei

The judges for the Special Awards include Mr Zhong Yeow Nan, President of the Singapore Artiste Association; Mr Chew V Ming, Editor of STOMP; Mr Glenn Low, Life & Entertainment News Editor of my paper; and Mr Aaron Tan, Director of LEX(S) Entertainment.

The Getai Awards were initiated by STOMP in 2006 to
promote the uniquely Singaporean tradition of stage entertainers who perform during the annual Hungry Ghost Festival. By showcasing the performances on the English-based website, STOMP extends the reach of this entertainment art form well beyond its traditional Chinese-speaking audience.

The event was presented by STOMP with the support of Kreta Ayer Community Club and LEX(S) Entertainment Productions.

In the radio business, SPH has an 80 per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations Radio 100.3 in Mandarin and 91.3FM in English.


Events and Outdoor Advertising
SPH’s events subsidiary Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its wholly-owned subsidiary, SPH MediaBoxOffice Pte Ltd, Singapore’s largest outdoor motion display advertising network media company.


Properties
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road.
