Delicacies from Around the World at The Food Safari 2010

Singapore, 4 November 2010 – The Food Safari & Home Electronics Fair is back for the second time with delicacies from around the globe and irresistible home appliance deals. The exhibition will be held at Suntec Convention Halls 602 and 603 during the Deepavali weekend from 5 to 7 November 2010. Organised by Singapore Press Holdings' wholly-owned subsidiary, Sphere Exhibits, the fair is on from 11am to 9pm daily. Admission is free.

Event goers can look forward to over 70 food stalls offering a myriad of delicacies from around the world. International pavilions are set up with booths offering succulent lechon baboy (roast pork) and embutido (meat loaf) which are well-loved by Filipinos; Spanish tapas and ham, Indian tikkas and masala curry, Dutch cheese, Turkish kebabs and more.

For those who have a sweet tooth, there will be desserts such as premium wine ice-cream from Vino En Primeur (Booth F05) and a new range of frozen mousse cakes from The Patissier (Booth I06). The Watering Holes section offers a great selection of beverages ranging from aromatic tea to an endless flow of draft beer. The owners of Dilmah Tea will also launch their new range of premium tea and share their knowledge of tea with visitors to the fair.

For a small fee, visitors can also pick up some culinary tips at workshops such ascheese tasting, wine appreciation, cooking demonstrations and preparation of tea cocktails. Popular food consultant Violet Oon will kick off the list of exciting programmes for the three-day fair with ‘Violet Oon Cooks Around the World” on the opening day (5 November).

Mr Chua Wee Phong, Sphere’s Executive Director, said, “Food Safari was the first show organised by Sphere Exhibits in November 2008 and it attracted 250,000 visitors. Since then, Sphere has gone on to organise other large-scale events which were equally successful. For those who love food and shopping, Food Safari is one event they should not miss.”

Over the three days, visitors will also be entertained by a series of engaging stage programmes such as roti prata throwing, kids’ sandwich making and pau (buns) wrapping contests. There will also be a special showcase by Wong Ah Yoke, Tan Hsueh Yun, and Thng Lay Teen – popular food writers from The Sunday Times, who will whip up their favourite dishes for the audience.

Electronics Galore by Best Denki

Those who are shopping for home appliances and other electronic gadgets can find them at the Electronics section where Best Denki’s great bargains await them.

The Safari Champion Culinary Challenge

The Safari Champion Culinary Challenge will showcase the talent of a new generation of promising young chefs from the Singapore Chefs Association.

Challengers will be tasked to create the most innovative and unique new Singapore dish using at least three food products sponsored by Tasty Singapore.

Cake-a-Décor Contest

Co-organised with Singapore Bakery and Confectionery Trade Association, this competition requires contestants to decorate a one-metre tall cake that best reflects the Food Safari theme.
