Singapore’s only urban obstacle race – the Men’s Health Urbanathlon 2011 – raises the bar for its participants.
Singapore, 15 February 2011 — The second Men’s Health Urbanathlon on 20 February promises to be even tougher than the one held last year with a new 14km course (2km longer than last year’s) and nine upgraded obstacles.
Mr Raymond Goh, Group Editor of SPH Magazines which publishes Men's Health Singapore, said: “The new obstacles are designed to give those running the Men's Health Urbanathlon for the first time a memorable experience, and will also provide some fresh and surprising challenges for those doing it a second time. Either way, the Urbanathlon will push every runner to his limit.”
The nine obstacles along the 14km Urbanathlon route include Frame Works – a multilevel scaffolding structure through which runners must manoeuvre, and The Network – a rope web placed over a 3.2m high lorry that runners must climb.
Beginning and ending at the Nicoll Highway MRT station, the new route will take the close to 2,000 participants into the heart of the Central Business District past the F1 Pit Building, the Esplanade, and new urban landmarks such as the Promontory and Marina Bay Sands.
Other than the bragging rights of having completed the most challenging urban race in Singapore, all participants can also look forward to receiving a race pack worth over $400. Attractive prizes await the top 10 runners, with the first prize worth more than $13,000.
Mr Baey Yam Keng, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, will be in attendance as Guest-of-Honour for this event.
The excitement continues after the race at the Start/Finish Point. Participants can collect their finishers’ T-shirt and medal, cool down and wash up, witness the prize presentation, enjoy complimentary beer and food, recover with sports massage and take home a commemorative snapshot.
