Unveiling the next generation of cutting-edge technologies at DEMO Asia 2011

Singapore, 26 May 2011–Sphere Exhibits Pte Ltd (Sphere), a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and IDG Enterprise, the US-based technology, media, events and research company, will be jointly organising the inaugural DEMO Asia 2011. It will be held at the Marina Bay Sands from 29 to 30 November 2011.

Launched in 1991, DEMO is the global launch pad for emerging technologies and is held twice a year in the United States. It comprises conferences, pitches and networking sessions for a specially invited group of companies to launch their products for the first time to an audience made up of angel investors, venture capitalists, corporate developers and acquirers, government agencies, universities and research institutes.

For the past five years, DEMO events held in the United States have enjoyed phenomenal success, with 92% of the participants securing funding within 9 months after taking part in a DEMO launch; while 62% of participants received over $1 million in funds from angel investors and venture capitalists. More than 50 companies which took part in DEMO events were either acquired or went into collaborations with some of the biggest technology companies such as Google, Microsoft, Nokia and Symantec.

Some of the groundbreaking innovations launched at past DEMO events were now well-known brands in both the business and consumer markets. These included Adobe Acrobat, Skype Mobile and Sun Microsystems’ Java.

Singapore is the second country in Asia to host a DEMO event, after China. Sphere Exhibits will produce DEMO Asia with DEMO's existing co-producers - IDG Enterprise, a subsidiary of IDG, and strategic partner VentureBeat, a portal that reports the latest news, trends and developments on innovation and technology. DEMO Asia will focus on the best and brightest companies throughout the continent, as well as global companies in this region.

Three Singapore companies have taken part in past DEMO events in the United States and have secured funding. The founders of two of the local companies, namely Mr Danny Tan, CEO of Foound and Mr Varun Arora, CEO of GotoCamera were present to share their experiences in taking part in a DEMO event.

These companies have successfully launched their innovative products and services at past DEMO events. Foound developed an application that helps people to organise hangouts and track their friends' activities. GotoCamera came up with a service that allows people to do video monitoring and security surveillance via webcams.

With the addition of DEMO Asia to the DEMO family of conferences which include DEMO China and DEMO Spring and Fall in the United States, past participating companies are now eligible to be enrolled for the Global Launch Program. This first-of-its-kind program provides companies with the unique ability to launch their products and services at any DEMO conference and participate for free as a showcase sponsor company at other international DEMO events.
