The SPH Red Apple Day is back for a second time this year

Singapore, 22 June 2011 - Singapore Press Holdings Ltd (SPH) will be holding the second round of its biannual blood donation drive – the SPH Red Apple Day – on 7 July 2011 to encourage both its staff and the public to donate blood. The last SPH Red Apple Day held on 25 January 2011 attracted 280 donors and collected a total of 166 units of blood.

Jointly organised with the Singapore Red Cross Society, the next SPH Red Apple Day will be held in the auditorium of the News Centre at Toa Payoh North from 11am to 5pm. As with previous donation drives, the first hour (11am to 12 noon) will be reserved exclusively for SPH staff. The public can donate their blood from 12 noon onwards.

The Bloodbank needs about 350 units of blood daily for bleeding emergencies, and to treat hospital patients undergoing critical transplant surgeries or suffering from haematological cancers.

Launched in 2001, SPH Red Apple Day is one of the ways in which SPH contributes to society as a good corporate citizen and was originally held once a year. In response to a dip in blood donations during the festive period, SPH decided to add another blood donation drive to its annual calendar.

The SPH Red Apple Day is supported by SPH MediaBoxOffice, AsiaOne, SPH UnionWorks´ 91.3 FM and Radio 100.3, Benelux, Centrum, Cerebos, Gardenia, Marigold and Nestle. SPH is also supported by Beatty Secondary, which will be sending its students to help out with the blood donation drive.
