– A history fanatic, a localised ang moh expat and a Singaporean living in South Africa may seem strange bedfellows, but these individuals were amongst the winners at this year's Singapore Blog Awards (http://sgblogawards.omy.sg
Jerome Lim, a nature and history lover, clinched the Best Photography Blog award; banking executive and active grassroots volunteer Peter Breitkreutz won the Best What-The-Hell Blog; and Karen Lim, a Singaporean who lived in New Zealand and South Africa as an expatriate’s wife, came in first in the Get Your Sexy Back Best Lifestyle Blog category.
They joined eight other winners in their respective categories at the Singapore Blog Awards 2011. The event was held at Shanghai Dolly in Clark Quay on 23 July. Organised by omy.sg, the bilingual news and interactive web portal of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), the Awards honoured “new-age wordsmiths” who devoted their time and energy to creating and maintaining informative and innovative blogs.
The ten winning bloggers received their prizes from Guest of Honour, Major-General (NS) Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Minister of State, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts.
They earned for themselves a trip to Melbourne, Australia, with air tickets and accommodation paid for by the Tourism Victoria and Jetstar, in addition to a trophy specially designed by Cultural Medallion winning artist Mr Tan Swie Hian.
The winners were determined via public voting, as well as scores given by a panel of 13 professional judges. Over a period of three months, more than 1000 blogs registered for the Awards and over 70,000 votes were cast to vote for the finalists.
Judges for this year's awards were Mr Kelvin Tong, movie director; Ms Kuo Jian Hong, Co-Artistic Director of The Theatre Practice; Mr Keith Png, fashion designer; Radio 100.3 deejays, Ah Ken and Anna Lim; Ms. Violet Lim, Founding Director of Lunch Actually and Eteract.com; Mr U-Zyn Chua, CEO of Ping.sg; Mr Samuel Ng, CEO of Marine Parade Family Service Centre; Ms Xiao Han, Director and Lyricist of Funkie Monkies Productions; singers Ms. Tan Diya and Ms. Carrie Yeo; Mr Walter Lim, Director of Strategic Planning, Policy and Marketing Communications ,National Art Gallery; Mr Danny Yeo, theatre practitioner and Mr Low Sze Ping, award-winning photography blogger.

Last year’s Singapore Blog Awards won two Excellence Awards at the Asian Publishing Awards 2011 in Bangkok for Best in Advertising Delivery and Best Use of User-Generated-Content; as well as a Gold Award at the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers’ Asian Digital Media Awards 2010, for Innovation Use of Social Media in the Best in Social Media category.
