Singapore, 6 October 2011 – The SPH Foundation Arts Fund will be sponsoring the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO) Caring Series 2011/2012 at community hospitals.
The sponsorship will bring the national Chinese orchestra to perform at five hospitals and charity homes in 2011 and 2012, starting with the Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital on 12 October 2011 at 7.30pm.
MG (NS) Chan Chun Sing, Acting Minister for the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and Minister of State for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts, will be the Guest of Honour for the opening concert on 12 October.
The SCO Caring Series, into its 5th year, is an initiative to bring music to patients in hospitals and hospices, as well as the underprivileged in the community. Besides this series, the SPH Foundation Arts Fund, which was launched in April this year, has supported theatre productions by The Theatre Practice, I Theatre, Toy Factory Productions, Singapore Repertory Theatre and Drama Box. It gives the underprivileged the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate the arts. At the same time, it also helps local arts groups to produce quality productions and reach out to more audiences.
Ms Ginney Lim, General Manager of the SPH Foundation, said: "We launched the SPH Foundation Arts Fund this year to benefit both the arts and charity organisations. By sponsoring the SCO Caring Series in the hospitals, we hope to bring the joy of music to the patients, as well as the hospital staff who have devoted their time caring for the sick."
