HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards 2013

77 awards presented in recognition of the best brands and products at technology industry’s most prestigious awards

Singapore, 27 February, 2013 – HardwareMAG
or HWM, Singapore’s leading tech magazine, and HardwareZone.com, Singapore’s No.1 online technology portal today announced the winners of the HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards 2013, in recognition of the best brands and products in the technology industry.

Into its fourth edition, the HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards is the industry’s largest and most inclusive awards event. This year,
36 Editor’s Choice and 41 Readers’ Choice awards were handed out in categories ranging from computers and consumer electronics to digital entertainment, communications and services. These awards celebrate the most influential technology companies as well as excellence in product performance and innovation.

For the Editor’s Choice awards, a total of 159 products across 36 categories were evaluated in the HWZ Labs during the eligibility period from December 2011 to November 2012. An expert editorial panel put each product through proven benchmarks and test methodologies. The winners were chosen based on performance, value and innovation in consumer experience.

The Readers’ Choice awards saw an increase in brand nominations from 138 nominees in 2012 to 169
in 2013, covering 41 categories. A record high of 249,000 votes were cast during the four-week voting period, indicating the continued growth of the HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards as the platform of choice for consumers to identify the most recognisable brands in the industry.

Dr Jimmy Tang, Group Editor of HWM Singapore and HardwareZone.com, said: “The HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards 2013 is our biggest one to date, with expanded categories in both Editor’s Choice and Readers’ Choice awards. This can be attributed to the maturing of nascent technologies such as fibre broadband, wireless standards and cloud services, which proved to be the catalysts driving the growth of mobile and digital entertainment markets. We also saw greater competition in the services sector with emerging players making a bid to challenge the status quo.

“We’re proud to announce yet another year of record votes cast, a result of widespread consumerisation of technology, increased readership and a more vocal community. As we move into the next awards cycle, we will continue to assess our merit categories to remain relevant with ever-shifting trends and deliver the industry’s most inclusive awards event.”

Mr Eugene Low, Deputy Managing Director, SPH Magazines, added: “The continued success of the HWM+HardwareZone.com Tech Awards is the result of our commitment to provide Singapore’s premier platform to recognise the best in tech. The brands and products we honour today also set the standard to beat for the year ahead. We hope the awards serve to spur healthy competition and sustained innovation within the industry, giving rise to better products, improved quality of service and ultimately greater consumer confidence.”

The complete set of results will be published in HWM Singapore’s March and April 2013 issues. They will also be released online at
