Sphere Exhibits to host "SmartKids Asia" in Singapore - the world's largest educational kids fair

Singapore, 6 March 2013 – Sphere Exhibits, the events and exhibition arm and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), will add “SmartKids Asia”, a children educational and enrichment fair, to its stable of trade and consumer events here in Singapore. 

This follows its recent acquisition of several major events and exhibitions from Expomal International, one of Malaysia’s leading exhibition and conference organisers. The projects acquired are the “Malaysian International Food & Beverage Trade Fair” (MIFB); the “Golden Bull Award”, which honours Malaysia’s top performing small and medium enterprises (SMEs); and “Smart Kids”, an education and lifestyle expo targeted at parents of children 3 – 16 years old. The Smart Kids event is currently running in both Singapore and Malaysia. 

The inclusion of SmartKids Asia into its Singapore portfolio will enable Sphere Exhibits to further strengthen its position in consumer events catering to children and families. Currently, Sphere Exhibits owns “The Kidz Academy” – a successful five-year child educational event focusing on enriching young minds - and “Baby Baby” – a baby market event which will be held in July for the second consecutive year. 

The “Smart Kids” Expo was first started in Malaysia in 2002, and was held in Singapore for the first time last year. This children educational, lifestyle, health and family-focused event engages parents and children through exciting entertainment and programmes. Last year, the inaugural “SmartKids Asia” event held in Singapore attracted 162 exhibitors and more than 93,000 visitors over three days. In Malaysia, the event has attracted over 130,000 visitors annually throughout its 11-year history. The success of the event is reflected in the event clinching a place in the Malaysia Book of Records under categories such as “Malaysia’s Largest Synchronised Virtual Painting” and “Malaysia’s Largest Family Colouring Contest”.

Set up in 2008, Sphere Exhibits has organised and managed more than 22 events and exhibitions in Singapore, attracting more than 750 exhibitors and over 1.5 million visitors annually. This new acquisition is a major milestone for Sphere Exhibits which aims to establish a stronger presence in the Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry. Its portfolio of trade and consumer events includes “Asian Masters”, “Gourmet Japan”, “Franchise Licensing Asia”, “Singapore Gifts and Premiums Fair”, “BuildTechAsia”, “COMEX”, “IT Show”, “World Food Fair” and “Asia Pacific Food & Beverage Fair”.

This year’s “SmartKids Asia” event will be held on 15-17 March at the Singapore Expo Hall 5. Close to 200 exhibitors will be on show offering over 100 enriching and learning activities in academia, health and family bonding. There will be three days of stage performances such as meet-and-greet sessions with cartoon characters; stage activities and workshops for parents and caregivers and trial classes for children to try out interactive games and activities. Events and Out-of-Home Advertising

SPH’s events arm Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions as well as large scale conferences in Singapore and the region. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its digital out-of-home platform SPH MediaBoxOffice.


SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt.
