- Popular Malay and Indian groups boost diverse offerings for the first time
Singapore, 6 March 2013 --- This year's SPH Gift of Music concert series by leading media group Singapore Press Holdings will offer a musical feast of diverse musical genres. In addition to its regular offerings of classical music, pop, jazz, rock and opera, this year's programme also includes ethnic music by Malay and Indian groups, as well as performances by local musicians who have taken to Youtube and other social media to showcase their talent. About 25 concerts will be organised under the banner of SPH Gift of Music this year.
Popular Malay group Sri Mahligai will perform Malay pop tunes from the 80s in May. Kalaa Utsavam, the annual Indian Festival of the Arts at the Esplanade will also be presented by SPH Gift of Music for the first time. The ten-day festival held during Deepavali in November will offer an exciting selection of contemporary and traditional performances by acclaimed Indian artists from Singapore and overseas.
This weekend (9 March), the Singapore Symphony Orchestra will perform a string of popular classics at Gardens by the Bay, led by conductor Darrell Ang. Coming up next will be a percussion music weekend called Drumming Up the Spirit at the Esplanade Outdoor Theatre featuring top percussion bands from Singapore including Sambiesta and Voodoo from 22 to 24 March.
Popular concerts such as Singapore Lyric Opera's Opera in the Park, the SCO Community Series by Singapore Chinese Orchestra, as well as performances by winds orchestras The Philharmonic Winds and the Singapore Wind Symphony will also return this year.
Launched in 2005, the SPH Gift of Music series has been entertaining Singapore audiences in the heartlands, parks, concert halls and shopping malls. Thousands of Singaporeans from all walks of life have enjoyed the free concerts.

SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8 and U, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today.
Events and Out-of-Home Advertising
SPH’s events arm Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions as well as large scale conferences in Singapore and the region. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its digital out-of-home platform SPH MediaBoxOffice.
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Its second retail development, The Clementi Mall, started business operations in 2011. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road. SPH‘s latest retail development project, The Seletar Mall, is slated for completion by end 2014.
