A date with Lianhe Zaobao under the stars

- Chinese daily celebrates 90th anniversary with mega outdoor arts event

Singapore, 12 August 2013 --- Lianhe Zaobao, the Chinese flagship newspaper of Singapore Press Holdings, will celebrate its 90th anniversary with a two-night arts extravaganza on 30 and 31 August7.30pmat Fort Canning Park. Admission is free. 

Entitled Nine Songs (九。歌), the outdoor performance will feature a tapestry of dance, music and theatre with more than 
40 leading local artists from the visual and performing arts circle collaborating in one mega arts event. 

Highlights of the event include Kunqu Opera classic, 
The Peony Pavilion, performed by premier Beijing Opera artist Huang Ping, accompanied by the popular T'ang Quartet. Ding Yi Music Company, Singapore's contemporary Chinese orchestra, will create a bewitching soundscape to accompany Coloratura Soprano Zhou Xiaoman, who will sing River on a Spring Night, based on a famous Tang poem.

Catch UFM100.3 DJ Huang Wenhong in a battle of wits and words as he takes on Su Weisheng, the third-generation disciple of legendary China's cross-talk master Ma Ji. Rounding up the show is a unique performance featuring hand puppetry, modern dance, Chinese opera and Hu Qin in a grand finale called 
Stream.

The audiences will also be treated to performances by local talents including MICappella and T.H.E Dance Company, which have been making waves overseas. In addition, electrifying drum troupe Zingo and local winds orchestra The Philharmonic Winds will also take turns to wow the audiences on both nights. 


Ms Lee Huay Leng, Deputy Editor of Lianhe Zaobao cum Vice President, Cultural Industry Promotion, who is also the Chairman of Lianhe Zaobao's 90th Anniversary Celebrations Organising Committee, said: "Lianhe Zaobao is both a cultural and historical product. From its early days before the merger of Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh to the present Lianhe Zaobao, it is always armed with a cultural mission of supporting local artists. As such, there is nothing more meaningful than organising a mega arts event to commemorate Lianhe Zaobao's 90th anniversary. It is a celebration with our readers, as well as a tribute to local artists."

Broadcasting
In the radio business, SPH has a 92.9% per cent stake in SPH UnionWorks Pte Ltd, which operates entertainment stations UFM 100.3 in Mandarin, as well as Kiss92 and HOT FM91.3 in English. SPH has a 20 per cent stake in MediaCorp TV Holdings Pte Ltd, which operates free-to-air channels 5, 8 and U, and a 40 per cent stake in MediaCorp Press Limited, which publishes the free newspaper, Today. 

Events and Out-of-Home Advertising
SPH’s events arm Sphere Exhibits organises innovative consumer and trade events and exhibitions as well as large scale conferences in Singapore and the region. In addition, SPH has ventured into out-of-home (OOH) advertising through its digital out-of-home platform SPH MediaBoxOffice.

Properties
SPH owns and manages Paragon, the prime retail and office complex in the heart of Orchard Road, Singapore's main shopping belt. Its second retail development, The Clementi Mall, started business operations in 2011. SPH's wholly-owned subsidiary, Times Development Pte Ltd, has also developed a 43-storey upmarket residential condominium, Sky@eleven, at Thomson Road. SPH‘s latest retail development project, The Seletar Mall, is slated for completion by end 2014.
