Shin Min Daily News has been running a daily column on Master Hsing Yun, a renowned and well-respected Buddhist monk from Taiwan, and his words of wisdom since 2009.
A compilation of his anecdotes and quotes was published in 2011 and reprinted twice due to the overwhelming demand from readers. It sold 40,000 copies and was the best selling Chinese book of that year. A second book was subsequently published in 2012 and a third book in June 2013, both garnering rave reviews.
The articles in the series were extracted and edited from Master Hsing Yun's preaching, lecturing and writings over the years, and each consisted of a thought-provoking anecdote which brought out the everyday “living wisdom” one could adopt in our daily lives.
This e-book was built on the printed version of the first book, and is a collaboration between Shin Min Daily News and – Shin Min Daily News, published by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), will be launching its very first e-book, “Master Hsing Yun - Words of Wisdom” (星云大师点智慧) on to coincide with the visit of Master Hsing Yun to Singapore.omy.sg, Singapore’s first bilingual-friendly news and entertainment website. The e-book is available on iTunes App Store as well as Google Play Store, for both tablets and smartphones.
This will be the first e-book of Master Hsing Yun in Southeast Asia, and will be made available in two versions – a simplified Chinese version and a traditional Chinese version. This will enable users from different countries around the world to access the e-book in their preferred Chinese forms on the go.
Mr Choo Chee Wee, Assistant Editor of Shin Min Daily News and editor of the book, remarked that the initial intention of publishing Master Hsing Yun’s quotes was to provide an oasis for urbanites to reflect and recharge. He said: “We are really glad that after running the Master Hsing Yun’s column in our newspapers for more than 1,400 days, it is still receiving widespread support. The availability of the e-book will enable city-dwellers to gain access to Master Hsing Yun’s living wisdom anywhere, anytime.’
Produced by omy.sg, the e-book app will be available for download at a promotional price of US$5.99 (usual price US$6.99) for iPhones and iPads and S$7.99 for android (usual price S$8.99) for the first three months.
