Licence2Play 2013 Levels Up with Console Gaming, Cosplay Runway Show and Parkour Showdown

Singapore, 5 December 2013 - Licence2Play (L2P) 2013 is set to level up the gaming experience among seasoned and first-time gamers with a wide range of live and interactive competitions and electrifying shows. The event is organised by Sphere Exhibits, a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Press Holdings Limited (SPH), and presented by StarHub. More than 80,000 visitors are expected at this year's L2P, which will be held once again at the Suntec Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre Hall 401 from 6 to 8 December 201311am to 9pm.

Gamers will definitely have their adrenaline pumping non-stop at this annual gaming event. They will have the opportunity to beat Ho Kun Xian in a game of Super Street Fighter IV! Beat him in a best of 3 sets match and walk away with $100 cash. Kun Xian was crowned champion of Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition at the Evolution 2013 Fighting Game Championship of the World earlier this year. 

Win a Razer Atrox signed by Tan Min-Liang, co-founder, CEO and Creative Director of gaming hardware company Razer USA; and Yoshinori-Ono, a Japanese video game producer for Capcom, if Kun Xian is able to achieve a 50 game win streak. Visitors can also learn some cool parkour moves from SuperFly Monkey Dragons of Assassin’s Creed; or emerge as best players in the online game tournaments - Dragon Nest PVP Inter-school Challenge, World of Tanks NSF/NSMEN Championship and Digital Life King of Games. 

L2P takes on console gaming challenges to yet another level with cash and prizes to be won during the 3 day exhibition. The tournaments include:

  • Blazblue Chronophatasma 3v3 Team Tournament - the latest fighting game on the Playstation 3, with over $1,800 in cash and prizes to be won.
  • Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Singles Tournament - one of the most visually stimulating and hype video games of the year. Play with your favorite Capcom or Marvel Heroes and compete for over $600 in cash and prizes.
  • Gran Turismo 6 Time Attack - players compete to have the best course time to win over $1,000 in cash and prizes.

From retro titles to latest blockbusters, visitors can also try out evergreen console games at the biggest free play zone. The games include Super Mario Bros, WII Ghost Squad, Metal Slug, House of Dead, Super Smash Bros, NBA2K14, WWE14, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Rockband 3, Kinect Just Dance 2014, Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 Full Burst, F1 2013, Saint Seiya Brave Soldier, FIFA 14 and Gran Turismo 5.

For fans of trading card games, the event will also see the launch of a series of new games from Bushiroad, Sega and Bandai including Future Card Buddyfight, Cardfight!! Vanguard and Gundam War Nex-A alongside the ever-popular trading card tournaments organised by genesis Frontier.

For the first time, gaming fans and enthusiasts in the region can experience a real life physical maze game called “Freeing SG”. Being locked in a room without doors, players will have to search for hints to solve the riddles and escape within a limited time or bear an inconceivable aftermath.

Over the weekend, visitors of all ages will get the chance to witness and experience the wonder, grace and power of parkour as Superfly Monkey Dragons: Freerunning Academy inspire with their daily performances followed by beginner introductory workshops. On Sunday, parkour enthusiasts will battle for the title of the top parkour practitioner at Singapore's First Parkour Showdown.

At 1:10th scale but missing none of the thrills, fans of car "Drifting" can catch all the action but non of the spills as seasoned competitors battle it out at the Autodrift radio controlled car drifting competition. Visitors, both beginners and seasoned players alike, will also get a chance to try their hand at drifting the specially constructed radio controlled cars in the trial sessions. 

Cosplay competition "CosGames" returns for the annual East vs West game characters cosplay showdown. Witness characters from PC and console games come alive as cosplayers vie to become this year's undisputed CosGames champion to win more than $2,000 in cash prizes.

A key highlight of the L2P 2013 is the first ever Gaming Cosplay Runway Show where talented cosplayers put up incredible performances through their portrayal of characters from favourite game titles such as DotA 2, League of Legends, Maple Story and more. Afterwards, fans of cosplay will learn all about what makes or breaks a cosplay competition from cosplay panelists, Gearchi and Tessie. Exclusively at Licence2Play 2013, Fightsaber, a dedicated stage choreography and theatrical arts troupe based in Singapore, will showcase high action, kinesthetic performances and re-enactments of lightsaber duels from the Star Wars movies to promote greater appreciation for stage choreography as dramatic theatrical art form. 

In addition to gaming, visitors can shop at the flea market of more than 30 independent specialty retailers carrying a wide range of products from cutting edge fashion to innovative novelty products. Feast on some of the biggest and juiciest gourmet sausages in town from specialty bratwurst cafe The Brat while rocking to the sounds of popular anime and game music performed by homegrown visual kei rock band 'Absolute Zero' and popular cover artistes Serene, Jeannette, Kanoe. The visitor promotions daily include:

  • One Play Station 4 console to be won
  • Free hotdog for first 100 visitors
  • L2P welcome pack for next 100 visitors

We are excited that Licence2Play is able to continue to offer a wide variety of interactive games and thrilling tournaments this festive season. Besides the traditional tournaments, we have also added on more interactive components for everyone to enjoy. From console free play zone to extreme sports - Parkour, and the first room escape game in Singapore. With the introduction of these and the entertainment it will be a 3-day, non-stop lifestyle and entertainment experience for the coolest people."

"Sphere Exhibits, as the event organiser, has also taken the lead in educating our youths on the importance of cyber wellness and healthy gaming to bring about an all-round experience.” added Ms Wong.

Posters on cyber wellness and healthy gaming have been distributed to over 166 secondary schools, prior to the event. Students are encouraged to participate in an online quiz and the school with the most number of participants will receive a cash prize from L2P to be used for the school’s own cyber wellness programme.

Properties
