Singapore, 27 April 2006 - Over 50 sports utility vehicles (SUVs) will be embarking on an adventure drive of a lifetime to Desaru during this long weekend where they will try to outplay, outsmart and outdrive their opponents. Organised by The New Paper for the first time and presented by Champion Motors, the distributor of Suzuki cars, the SUVival Challenge (from 29 to 30 April) will be testing the survival instincts of the SUVs and their drivers who have signed up for the two-day one-night challenging self-drive journey to Desaru.
Three top drivers will win cash prizes, petrol vouchers and Sony Ericsson mobile car sets worth a total of $7,000. Fourth and fifth place drivers will each win $500 Shell petrol vouchers. There will also be a best-decorated SUV contest where 2 SUVs can drive away with products from Hella Asia.
The event will be flagged off at 8am from Raffles Marina and once the SUVs have crossed the immigration at the Second Link, the race will officially begin. The challenge involves drivers having to hunt for answers to encrypted clues and taking on challenges planted at different checkpoints within Desaru. The team with the highest point after completing the challenges will be the winner.
Day two of the event will see a team from Suzuki giving a 4x4 demo and participants will have to chance to try out Suzuki SUVs on the rugged terrain at the demo course. Colonel Mohd Jamal Salleh, Chairman of Greater Desaru Tourism Association will help oversee the demonstration.
The event is presented by Champion Motors, Suzuki, with Hella Asia as the main sponsor and other co-sponsors include Centrum, Shell, Sony Ericsson and Yokohama. It is organised by The New Paper with AsiaOne as the online partner and supported by Malaysian Tourism Board.
