Singapore, 17 July 2018 – Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), in partnership with the Singapore Red Cross Society, has collected 134 units of blood from 172 donors today at SPH Red Apple Day, its annual blood donation drive.
Into its 18th year, the event at the SPH News Centre auditorium attracted SPH staff, students of Beatty Secondary School and their parents and teachers, as well as members of the public
Mr Robert Teo, Director of Blood Donor Recruitment Programme (Singapore Red Cross), said: "We have had a longstanding partnership with Singapore Press Holdings and they have always been very supportive of the National Blood Programme. As we journey together towards the 18th Red Apple Day, we would like to thank SPH for their invaluable contributions in growing the blood donor pool in Singapore. Community partners like SPH play a vital role in helping to raise awareness of the importance of blood donation. We hope more donors and partners will step forward and join us in this lifesaving mission."
Beatty Secondary School Principal Mr Ling Khoon Chow said: "Blood is needed by all human beings and blood is needed to save lives in times of emergencies. For many patients, blood donors are their lifeline. As our population ages, it is likely that more blood will be needed in Singapore. Beatty Secondary School is pleased to partner Singapore Press Holdings in their blood donation drive yearly. Through this, we hope that our students will understand the importance of blood donation so that they will be encouraged to donate blood themselves in future. Our students can also serve as ambassadors to tell their family and friends the importance of blood donation. Through this drive, we also hope to encourage our stakeholders such as our staff and parents to donate blood and play their part in saving lives."
SPH Red Apple Day 2018 is supported by the Singapore Red Cross Society and Beatty Secondary School, and sponsored by Benelux, Gardenia and Nestlé.
