SPH and SPH Foundation donate $350,000 to Community Chest

- Community Chest beneficiaries and caregivers treated to SPH Gift of Music concert by The TENG Ensemble

Singapore, 26 July 2018 – The annual Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and SPH Foundation Charity Cheque Presentation will be held on 31 July 2018 at the Singapore Conference Hall.

This year, the presentation will be held in conjunction with a special SPH Gift of Music lunchtime concert featuring The TENG Ensemble, an east-west Singaporean ensemble which have garnered rave reviews by both local and global audiences. Two of the ensemble's albums were awarded 4.5 out of 5 stars by The Straits Times Life.

Dr Lee Boon Yang, Chairman of SPH and SPH Foundation, will grace the event as its Guest of Honour. He will present a cheque of $350,000 from both SPH and SPH Foundation to Mr Eric Ang, Vice-Chairman of Community Chest, who will receive on behalf of 20 social service organisations.

Out of the $350,000 donation amount, $150,000 will be donated by SPH Foundation in support of the Special Education Financial Assistance (SPED FAS) Scheme in aid of more than 1,500 disabled and special needs students from low income families.

From the remaining $200,000 donation amount, 10 charities serving the elderly and disadvantaged families will receive $100,000 from SPH while SPH Foundation will give $100,000 to 10 charities serving underprivileged children and the disabled. (Please see attached list of charities)

This year, more than 130 beneficiaries and caregivers will be invited to catch the lunchtime concert, followed by a lunch reception.

Every year, SPH and SPH Foundation work with Community Chest to identify charities serving the needy elderly and families, the disabled, as well as disadvantaged children and youth for its annual charity cheque presentation.
