SPH to bring festive cheer to elderly at Care Corner Senior Activity Centre at Woodlands

Singapore, 29 January 2019– More than 20 staff from Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) distributed fortune bags (福袋)to 120 senior citizens at Care Corner Senior Activity Centre at Woodlands, as part of SPH Staff Volunteers Club’s annual "SPH Cares with Bags of Love" event. Each fortune bag contained brown rice, rice vermicelli, multi-grain beverages, biscuits, sesame oil, 3-in-1 coffee, 3-in-1 MILO, milk with oats, tea bags, sweets, medicated oil and Mandarin oranges.

To liven up the Chinese New Year atmosphere, SPH staff volunteers entertained the senior citizens with their musical talents and treated them to games and a new year lunch. Archimedes Rodil, Software Engineer of SPHTech division, dressed up as a God of Fortune to bring festive cheer to the elderly.

In return, the senior citizens prepared their own healthy version of Lo-Hei for everyone, and showcased their singing skills through a short performance.

Chin Soo Fang, Head of Corporate Communications & CSR Division, said: "We have planned this annual event to spread some festive cheer to the needy elderly. We had not expected the senior citizens to make the time and effort to reciprocate and show their appreciation with their Lo-Hei and performance. They have touched our hearts just as we have warmed theirs. It has been a truly meaningful and memorable Chinese New Year celebration for both the elderly and volunteers indeed."
